Back speakers suck!
one does not need to give up cargo space to have a proper sub - my false floor is less than an inch thick, carpet included, and provides gobs of bass out of a very small box and powering it with a healthy dose of clean power (MCC406M)
Focals have bass? I could not disagree more - I have them (Utopia 6.5's) and I've never heard anyone describe their stuff as being a driver with substantial punch down low. They are responsive yes, but they have nowhere near the bass levels of other components (like the Morel's our other Z is using...those put out the lows!), they tend to be quite mellow IMHO, and their tweeter are very bright. As a result, the tweets like to be a bit off axis to keep things in check. I'm not a big bass guy at all, hence why I only have a single 10 inch - but the system would be woefully lacking without the sub

Re:> Do you have any pics of this setup? It sounds as though I could work for me. I do frequent golf outings and carry two sets of clubs with two small suitcases, and I’m absolutely full (not sure I can even give up a single inch, but maybe). I'd like to see pics of your configuration. That might solve my problem.

Re:> You are “preaching to the choir.” You didn’t read my reply accurately. Your comment is why I say that a SubW is a good addition if you can fit it into your car.

- Focal speakers provide excellent bass. In fact so much bass that I had to do quite a bit of sound deadening in my front doors where I mounted the Focals to prevent vibration. The Focals definitely “go low.” Of course, my statement is not intended to suggest this speaker replaces a SubW (and I state this early in this thread).
- You said: “and their tweeter are very bright.” I handle this successfully by placing the tweeters in the A-Pillar instead of the stock Sail Panel. The A-Pillar installation sounds great.
Just some counter-points and additional thoughts,

Alot more bass than the cupcake dishes we get stock, yes, but alot, IMHO, no
As with many things, YMMV
My take - stock speakers on many tracks (I could list tons, They will make a door vibrate on tracks ranging from Buena Vista Social Club, to Fionna Apple, to NAS). Even at moderate volume makes a stock door rattle...dynamat, etc is an absolute must on these cars with even a basic setup IMHO. Once insulated though, things inside get nice and tight. I am blessed in that my car doesn't make any of the typical rattles alot of Z owners complain about from the dash, etc. My car is just nice and quiet inside, always has been. We did the entire door on my car, and I a glad I did, big difference.
My tweeters are in a dedicated lower kick panel, but as with most hard dome tweets, they need to be fiddled with both in terms of location and crossover points. I lucked out as the person I got the speakers from had already fabbed the panels, and they have worked out great for me
