Back speakers suck!
i have the lowest model audio setup in an 08' z. so idk if this is a problem all owners experince or if its just me. but my back speakers were about a quarter as loud as my front ones. and they sucked. so i got the geek squad to change them to a different pair, and guess what, they still suck, but now they are at about 30%. is this a universal problem. or do i just have a bad connection/audio setup. i really didnt think they would sound bad, but idk. thanks
if you search through this section, you'll see virtually all of us with well prepped systems do away with the rear speakers altogether...they are essentially a waste unless you're doing a 5.1/DTS setup
no, i have it on +1 in the back. yea, they sound like a little speaker in a tin can. oh well, was just wondering if anyone else had that problem. later

Hi,
Since you say: “i have the lowest model audio setup in an 08' z.”
…I’m assuming you have the stock Clarion H/U and its components and not the OEM Bose system. In fact that’s a good thing since the OEM Bose system doesn’t sound much better and it’s more difficult to upgrade or replace than the stock Clarion system.
If you have the OEM Clarion setup, you don’t have a SubW or an external amplifier. That’s not a bad thing since it allows installing some additional stuff that isn’t too expensive.
If your budget is tight (and that’s pretty common these days), you can add an external amp to your OEM Clarion and replace the rears with decent coaxial speakers. Reading your post, it sounds as though you have already replaced the rears, so all you need to do now is add the external amp. An external amp will allow you to fade your new/replacement rears to an acceptable level. A moderately priced external amp is all that you need (you don’t need to go “crazy” here).
If you can afford more, replace your OEM Clarion H/U with just about anything. You can buy a single din H/U for very little, and get much better sound if you go with an external amp and the better rears you now own.
After doing this, save $$ for the next upgrade which is replacing the cheap front Clarion component speakers with just about anything.

Notice that the OEM Clarions only handle 40w’s. No wonder they sound awful.
If you’re not thinking about adding a SubW, replacing the front component speakers is a good idea. In this case, you want to get front components that provide good bass, and add sound deadening to the front doors to prevent vibration.
Hope this is helpful,

Not sure why people bother trying to upgrade rear speakers. You want sound coming from in front of you not from the back of you. Stage stage stage.. I disabled my rear speakers.. No need for them.
The stock clarion notice says Max 40W, in reality probably only does about 10-15watts..

I was given my rear speakers/amp/sub/headunit...they sound great
I first put in the rear speakers, and noticed a great difference. I was able to have a good in, and out of car sound at a lower volume
Bass+4 Trebble+3 fade +2 the rear something along these lines and it was sounding alright at 15 oppose to 20...just my .2 cents...
once I put it the amp/10in sub/f700bt the car sounds like a marching band...
with no rattling...I ensured I wouldn't get any awkard looks at full blast...
so in the end it's not a waste really to me...

Sure they sound fine, but for me hearing music from the rear is a no go.. I have my 2way setup staged/image correctly. With a good set of front speakers/amplified there is no reason to do anything to the rear speakers.
thanks spike100! that was very helpfull. my dad and i are looking up some amps and subs right now.

Do the swimming pool test.
Throw the speaker in the pool. If it floats, it's garbage.
Yes, I came up with this test. Yes, it gives me the giggles to see a clarion 32ohm act as a flotation device for toddlers.
No, there's no drawbacks to this test. Try it on your most expensive speakers and you'll find out if they're "good" or not.

yea i have an 07 and am thinking of putting at least a 10" and amp. or would you just recommend the amp with new fronts?? i know little about speakers.. and what a good price to buy them and stuff so any help is appreciated.
Kind of hard to answer without knowing what about your current setup you would like to improve upon. Adding a sub and an amp or adding new front speakers and an amp will get you two different results.

Actually, I don’t have a SubW in my Z. That’s simply because I was not willing to sacrifice rear cargo space, and didn’t like the small area behind the driver’s seat where Nissan installs the Bose SubW. Instead I chose to mount Focal component speakers in the front door. I chose Focal for its good bass.
With that said, you will get better sound with a SubW. Most modern recording (and re-mastered “oldies”) incorporate significant lows that benefit when playing on a system with a SubW.
I read the posts/replies on your good thread stating the rears are not needed (and may even interfere with staging). I use the rears (I replaced the stock Clarions with Infinity coaxials). I like the rears and use them as “presence” speakers (similar to presence speakers on home A/V systems offering that feature). They positively add to the sound, and they do not destroy staging. I also use a sound-switcher so that my navigation voice commands come through the fronts while my rears continue playing the current music.
Just some thoughts,

illiam.cras asks about a 2008 Z equipped with the OEM Clarion setup. This setup is very different from the 2003-2005 (and I think even the 2006) versions. For example, you can fade to the rears successfully in a 2003/2004/2004.5/2005 Z equipped with OEM Clarion. The 2007 and 2008 OEM Clarion setup doesn’t fade well to the rear speakers. It’s different, and that’s why a search won’t provide the answer.
Your comment: “stop making useless threads about information that was answered years ago.” …may not be true here since he’s asking about a recent model Z (a 2008) that isn’t “years-old.”
