Default Aftermarket radio, can you use the steering mounted switches?

I have an '06 Touring and am thinking about getting an aftermarket radio unit. My question is, if I get a new unit can I still use the steering wheel mounted switches for volume and other radio controls or no? Anyone done this?

Alright great, now by anychance, does the radio come with a harness that allows it to work or is there a certain trick that you need to do?

Usually requires a $50-75 dongle to make it work unless there's a DIY somewhere. Check Crutchfield and the like for the dongle.
