Car Camera Suggestions
Hey all,
Does anyone have any experience with camera security for a car? I'm interested in installing cameras to protect myself against theifs and also traffic stops to be used in court.

Right now I am thinking about buying a mini-box and loading Linux but I'm open for suggestions.

I would recommend that you do go with something hidden or buried under a seat or behind the subwoofer for your recordings as a thief is going to break into your car just for the camcorder/recorder if they know its in there.
www.supercircuits.com has a brand-new MPEG4 mobile recorder for something like $150 that caught my eye. Its an appliance designed to record so there's not the boot up time and other worries running a computer OS, even a linux-based one. It sounds like you want at least two cameras - once facing forward from the center of the roof to cover yourself, dashboard, and street view and another recording the driver's face (thief?). That adds a layer of complication as you'll need two recorders or one that does multi-channels - which they make.
For both I would recommend as high a resolution as possible and as low light sensitive as possible. Black and white cameras kill color ones on both those factors.
