Default Amazing IPOD mount.. possible in 350Z??

This guy did an amazing thing with the useless cassette player in his tahoe. I have never opened up my headunit but I'm wondering if this would be possible in my O5 with the factory unit with cassesste. The motorized eject works and everything!

I'd then interface it with the OEM headunit with an isimple PXAMG or something similiar.

I slide my 30GB black ipod into the casssette slot about halfway and it fit PERFECTLY, with nearly zero play, and it looked very choice! Perhaps even if I didn't go as far as the motorization, and simply gutted out the cassette mechanism and mounted the iPod connector 2 to 3 inches behind the cassest flap so the ipod could be slid in and out manually, it would essentially be a stealth dock.

Thoughts?

The motorization would be unbeleivable but it's definitly out of my skill range. But I think I will try the unmotorized version I was talking about. My guess is it would be pretty straight forward. Just mount the male ipod connecter about 2-3 inches behind the cassette door and slide the ipod in. It will just be a simple and stealthy ipod dock utilizing a perfect sized oem slot. Clean, simple and makes the cassestte slot useful again. I am not sure how much of the ipod I will leave protruding out from the cassette slot, maybey the entire screen portion. Even though the screen wouldn't really be readable (upsidedown and facing the sky) it would be clean loking instead of just some random amount left sticking out.

Not sure when I'll get time to try it, but it seems like it will be very simple to do. I'm actually surpised that either myself or others on this forum didn't think of it ourselves!

Yip... thats exactly it... Even the eject works. What he did was gutted the tape playing/reading parts that actually read the cassette, but left the cassette loading mechanism complete with the motorization. He lined the cassette tray with felt (or something grippy) Then he mounted an ipod connecter at the back of the unit so the ipod gets loaded like a cassette and hooks up to a carefully aligned connecter. Then on eject the mechanism simply ejects the iopd like a cassette.

An Ipod has nearly identical dimensions (width and thickness) of cassette.

Damn cool

Does anyone have a photo of a disassembled head unit? I'd like to examine the inside without tearing mine apart. I guess I could probably find one for cheap to tinker with off the MANY ppl who have pulled out the OEM and installed aftermarket.

Now here's my idea and a I will need some input. Weter I go with attempting the full morisation or simply use the casset slot as a mount the screen will be unreadable obviously. My idea would be to mount a low priced LCD in the cubby to rebrodcast the ipod screen. Of course the click wheel isn't usable with this system either so I would still use the stereo controls (usable with teh an isimple PXAMG) to control it.

Now the question is, does anyone know if the iopd GUI is diplayed via video out on an ipod. If the ipod interface was displayed on the cubby lcd it would be really cool. I know alot of this can be done with an aftermarket headunit but the whole point of the project is to use the OEM headunit with the cassette deck.
