Hey guys I have a question about the Z's Bose system. I am looking to get a simple aftermarket single din h/u. Its a JVC KD-R600 unit. (its multi color so I can match up the amber color of the stock lighting in the car). I plan on also adding a Kicker 750.1 mono amp with 2 10" subs. When I hook this CD player up will the bose sub still work? Is there any special wiring I have to do, or do I just plug up the appropriate wiring harness and go? Any help would be great. THanks!

while that would be nice...I really don't want to spend a whole lot of money on my audio system. Just looking for a small upgrade. Thanks for the heads up about the wiring harness - I'll look around for it.
350ztoering,
I'm not trying to threadjack but I don't want to start a new thread for something that can be attached here.
I'm also trying to do a small audio upgrade. I have an 05 BOSE system and I want to use my iPOD.
I don't want a nav system and I don't want to replace my speakers. I was looking at the JVC-KD-s100 which was recommended by Crutchfield. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDS1...0.html?tp=5684 but I'd have to buy another part to make my iPOD work.
walkingdead930 posted a link to Metraonline. I noticed that they have an iPOD adapter for the factory radio. I'm not 100% sure that it will work on my stock stereo. Anyone know?
Also, anyone know the appx weight of the oem radio and CD changer combined? If the JVC will save weight (15lbs+) then I'll probably buy it instead.
Thanks for the help.

Replacing the stock Bose subwoofer is a good thing. The Bose amplifier is looking for a line level input but doesn't use industry standard RCA jacks and plugs so you've got some matching work to do. There are interface units designed to do this and well worth the money.

'Toering - the Bose headend sends a line level signal out to the two "amplifiers", one under the antenna for the four main channels and another next to the "subwoofer". Here's a picture of the subwoofer's "amplifier"

It's well known the Bose "engineers" their systems to compensate for the cabin acoustics and just possibly to try to make up for their short comings with their speakers and amplifiers. What I don't know is where that signal shaping takes place - the headend or the amplifiers. Swapping out just the headend is trouble either way.
If the compensation is in the headend your new JVC will be sending "honest" signals out to the Bose amplifiers and their attached speakers are going to sound poor. If the compensation is built into amplifiers your JVC will have it's signals tweaked to match the speakers ... and sound better BUT ideally you follow up your headend installation with new speakers and have the headend drive them directly.
The Bose gear is some of the lightest weight garbage I've ever seen with amplifiers the size of a pack of cigarettes, missing power transistors and step up transformers and speakers with tiny magnets and plastic frames.

Good thread.
Paul, what unit do you recommend to 'match' my bose system?
Also, what's your opinions on the Metra Electronics Corp iPOD adapter for XIAH-IPC? I don't want to spend a lot of money on audio system for my Z but I'm tired of not being able to play MP3s..
