I would like to install a set of focal components in my doors. After searching I could not find which ones are just a drop in fit?? If none of them just drop in is it possible that infinity has a set of components that drops in?? What about the tweeters are they a drop on fitment????

Check the Focal model’s mounting’s specification sheet.

If the depth from wall dimension is greater than 2.5” (63.5mm), the speaker may not fit the stock door position.

Don’t worry about the tweeter size since you don’t need to mount this in the OEM tweeter compartment (the sail panel). You can mount the tweeter in the A Pillar and get better sound.

As far as a “drop-in” Focal model, the 165 V Slim (Depth from wall: 56mm-2.2"), is a simple install inside the stock door space.

Is it possible to mount the focal tweeter in the factory location??? I will try to power the system off my old Soundstream Rudicon 405. I just need to find a set of speakers for rear fill and decide on a h/u I guess...

 

I have mine in the factory location but a little bit of grinding by a dremel was required..

If you're going to pay for focals what's a bit more for spacers to make the midwoofer you like fit?

 

I have the slim mount ones, they sound pretty good.

I have my tweeters in the sail panel, they are too damn bright and I plan on moving them into the A pillars as soon as I can get the nerve to run the wires through the door connector.

K2P's DO NOT fit, If you want really large drivers in the front get a set of door pods or kicks panels, I preferred the Pods that are sold on here since they do not require loss of dead pedal. but that's just my .02's.

Get a new headunit and scratch the real fill. Pointless in the Z, you will probably decrease the SQ in the car. Car is too small for the benefit of it and just use the fader and move most of it upfront and you will be ok with the stock rears.

If I had it to do over again I would get the Zapco with the USB tuning port. Woofersetc.com sells them, I have the Zapco 200.2 and 500.1 but older version with no laptop connectivity for tuning.

Wow! We seem to all agree (how often does that happen) on where not to place the tweeters (the stock position sail panel) since the sound coming from this position is too harsh.

For sure placing the tweeters in the kick space provides great sound. It’s relatively easy to aim/direct the highs from the kick space to get great directional sound for both the passenger and the driver. Both seating positions hear the highs well since you aim towards the center of the car’s interior, and left and right sound remain very distinct. It’s really a good place to mount your tweeters.

I placed my Focal tweeters inside the A-Pillar. That works well, but alignment is a little tricky since you are bouncing the sound off the front windshield. Think of this concept as the band shell used for outside concerts. Here is a picture demonstrating the principle.



Notice that you are bouncing the directional high-frequency sound off the windshield towards the center of the car for optimum staging. You must get your “billiard-like bounce-shot” right. If the tweeter’s projections fall too far in front of the driver and passenger seat, you lose some of the sound in the collision, and the listeners won’t get the stereo (right and left) effect. I had to fiddle a little with my A-Pillar installation so that the bounce was right; but once you get it right, the sound is just great.
