Default Component Speaker Recommendations

This Christmas time i plan on upgrading my front doors and rear doors with new speakers and amping them. I have a sedan, with a JL w6v2 powered by JL 500/1 in rear. As of now, i plan on doing a JL 300/4, but thats not final if you guys recommend something else, hopefully a little bit cheaper

Im looking at spending around 100-170 for a pair. I dont listen to much rap or hiphop, mainly Dave Matthews and other jam bands or soft rock. God I love Dave Matthews . I know everyone has different opinions, i just want to see the popular choice. Let me know which you would go with if you were me.

Out of the ones on your list, I would go with Diamonds or PPI. BUT if you go Diamond D662, go with the SILK tweeter (D662s) instead of the ALUMINIUM tweeter (D662a). The aluminium is going to be very harsh depending where you mount and your tuning capabilities........similar to most MB Quart sets. Unless of course this is the sound YOU like.

I own Diamond D661s and love them. Very natural sounding and the silk tweet is very sweet in my install with no attenuation via the crossover.

The PPI are rebadged A/D/S speakers, and A/D/S's top of the line at that. They are supposedly the "sleeper" components of the year.

The rest of your components on the list are average I would say. I have owned (from your list) Infinity Kappa 60.9 and Boston S60 and they are both nice sets. I've read/heard the Phoenix and Alpine sets are good as well.

Would you consider listening to them before buying them?

Grab a CD (NOT MP3) and head over to your local stores and listen back-n-forth and pick what speakers sound best to you. Please yourself and nobody else.

So glad i found this thread, i have the identical setup right now in the rear, and will also be going with a component setup in my G coupe. Ill bookmark this thread!

Have you decided against the TR-650's cause they are too expensive? Too harsh?

also i would go 450/4 if you are planning fronts and rears, thatll give you 150/side in the front and 75/side in the rear.
