Passport 8500 Hardwire Install
A friend of mine and I did the install, took roughly 15 minutes. I cut the hardwire (ordered for $10 from Escort website) and soldered part of it to a spare fuse, which is where I get the power from. The wire was pushed under the bodywork along the A-pillar, and down the vents so it's completely hidden except for where it sticks out next to the detector.
Here's what it looks like when tucked between the roof and sun visor, after removing the unit for storage:
Here's a lame shot if the wiring next to the fuse box:
I apologize for the blurry pics, turns out I was too close while taking these. It's been a little over a month now and this baby has already paid for itself in fines and insurance hikes by alerting me to the Five-O.

goto circuit city.... you dont need to order any more wires, because they use the cigarette adapter cord to hardwire the detector. you dont get to use the buttons on the cig adapter anymore... but they do it for 25 bucks! i just had mine done there yesterday, and i am happy with it.
