I'm almost positive I'm purchasing this headunit over the 3200. Any issues with installation, or using it with the Bose system? Did you get the kit that hooks up to the steering wheel controls?

Most importantly, how and where did you run the aux inputs(3.5mm, iPod)?

Well the stock sub behind the drivers seat and the sub amp I removed, and replaced with a 800 watt class D Pioneer amp and a 1200 watt shallowmount Pioneer 10" sub (mounted in a box I made in the drivers side rear corner of the trunk.)

The Dash Kit needed trimmed in order for the screen to close correctly, and my Z doesn't have the steering wheel controls....

I'm anti-Apple, so all I ran was the USB cable, I ran it under the center console, and it comes out the side and goes under the passenger seat, and I have an 8gb thumbdrive hooked up to it now.

Clever! i was trying to think of some way to run the iPod hookup where it would be completely hidden, as I'd most likely just leave it hooked up most of the time. How is the compatibility with just .mp3 files? Does it read them as individual files or does it sort them artist/album/song etc like the iPod interface?

For the aux I'm thinking about using one of those flushmount plugs, but i'm not sure where to make the hole for it.

I have the thumb drive setup with the folders Music, Pictures, and Video. The unit will only let folders that have a readable file type in them for whatever type you have be selected. So for instance if I have music selected, when I click the magnifying glass icon to open a file, only the music folder is in white, the other 2 are greyed out, since there are no music files in them. I have them all in folder by artist, then album.

I know a lot of people run the ipod hookup into the cubby above the radio.

What all would I need to consider if I was looking into this unit for my 2004 perf ed Z? Everything stock regarding audio really (not very knowledgeable when it comes to audio) So to remove the initial HU and replace it with this it looks like a metra kit with this works ok with a lil modification but also does the screen come off?

Would really appreciate it. I want to do this but I like what I see on yours. How does that connect to your iPod as well? and what would you have to do to get BlueTooth up and running on that? Driving a manual = no phone and would be lovin that. That's why I'm likin the looks of the 3200BT but i like the 4200 more.

The IPod cable plugs into the back of the unit, so you'd have to decide when you're installing if you want it and where to run it, same goes for the USB cable as well. The Bluetooth is an add on accessory, same as the GPS (which I think becomes available this week or next week...) WHen the shop opens today I'll see about the model numbers...

Metra Kit - Model 99-7602 (It was modified by slightly trimming the inside of the radio surround...)

I have an 08 Bose but everything has been gutten except the headunit up until now. Currently the rear speakers are powered by the headunit but I want to switch to this unit. Unfortunately most of the places I have checked online are out of stock too... Anyway, which wireharness do I need, I would like the model number so I can find it.

Rear speakers will need to be powered from headunit, everything else has been bypassed. Which harness do I need?

Also, has anyone on here used a Axxess ASWC for their steering wheel controls? It is billed as being much easier to install and program than the PAC module. Thoughts/Suggestions?

Thanks,

-Roper

I dont know of any harnesses that will come already having so much eliminated, you'll probably need to buy the normal harness and just cap off and bypass the speaker connections that way... I can ask but I'm pretty sure you're model number will be different since yours is an '08 and mines an '04 and I'm pretty sure the harness for mine only fits '03 - '04.... you can check crutchfield.com

Ive had the p4200 for about 4 months now. Bought the bluetooth/HD radio and everything. The touch screen just went out. Panasonic says i need to ship it to a facility in texas for repair, and they will ship it back to me. This is obviously a huge PITA, as this now involves removing the broken unit from my dash, reassembling the dash without a head unit, waiting weeks for the fixed unit to arrive, then reinstalling it. Buyer beware, if your p4200 goes out, its gonna be a PITA to get it fixed.
DONT BUY!
Get the more expensive kenwood unit and dont mess with panasonics shitty products and even worse customer service.

I assume you meant Pioneer...not Panasonic.

You have come across an anomoly. The only Pioneer screen I have ever seen 'fail' was when one of my douchebag buddies punched his Z2 and rendered it useless. At some point in life, electronics are going to fail no matter how much it cost, where it was made or who made it. Its just a fact of life so take it with a grain of salt.

Sorry to hear about your screen. At least you have warranty.

this thread is a few months old... the 4200 I started this thread about i recently upgraded to the newer X920BT with Nav/bluetooth etc... and I've never had a pioneer screen fail.. also.. typicaly once the 30 days runs out if you bought it retail, you're going to deal with the factory warranty regardless if it's made by pioneer, sony, etc..
