Do I need a separate amp if I replace speakers?
I have read of a few people who have replaced only the speakers on their system and they say it sounds much better. I have also read that because the stock system is at 1 ohm and most speakers are 4 ohms, the new speakers won't be very loud. So, do I need to buy a separate amp or can I get away with just replacing the speakers?
One more question. Does anyone have a preference between the Infinity 6002i and the 652i?
Thx.

When I replaced the front speakers with MB Quart DSC-216s, I looked at the specs. There's simply not enough power in the stock head to really make those speakers sing! I ended up going with a simple 2-channel amp (U.S. Acoustics 2100) and haven't been disappointed. The combination of speakers and amp are a HUGE improvement and I'd suggest that this is the path to take if you want the speakers to really perform.
I'm running Infinity Kappa components in the front directly off my Alpine 9815 (27w/chan) and have the stock rears for fill.
Added a basslink recently and it all sounds great for about $900.
You need an amp if you like your music extremely loud (like to show off).
