Starting Over With My Audio
I will start off by saying that ther are some newb questions in here that I haven't researched a whole lot so my flame suit is on
I currently have an Eclipse AVX-2404 Head unit
4 Alpine door speakers. Non components
Alpine MRP M-500 Amp pushing 2 Alpine Type E Subs
This was all in when I purchased my Z.
Ok, here we go. I hate the volume control on the Eclipse and dont use the DVD player ever. I have an old Alpine CDA-9835, which was my favorite HU I ever owned. I know it is older but does anyone see any disadvantages to switching them besides the fact that it wouldn't look as cool
I have a set of Focal K2 165KF also that I intend to put in the front. I ran them in my S2000 without an amp and realize that I wasn't getting nowhere near their peak performance. Heres a newb question. What would be a 4 channel amp that you guys would recommend to push them? I see so much bashing of rear speakers on here. Would it even be worthwhile to go Focals with the rears also?
On to the Subs. I mostly listen to metal and sometimes the bass drowns out my highs. I have considered dropping down to one Jl Audio W710 or something high end. Clarity means much more to me than rattle. A JL 500/1 should handle that, right.
Any advice or suggestion will be much appreciated. Thanks Guys

Not really to worried about budget. i know you have to pay to play. I spent over 600 on the speaker so I might as well get a equal quality amp to push them. Thats first priority and I have enough to cover any amp out there except top of the line Audisons or something like that
My Alpine does all of that except DVD and I have factory navigation. I like the controls on it so much better. In its day the 9835 was top of the line.
If I choose to go that route I will sell the Eclipse on here to help fund the Sub.

Hmm, so what suggestions do you need?
For the subwoofer, you're right for sticking with a single 10. I had an MB Quart 10" sub and the clarity and response were awesome. Also, I had MB Quart components up front with the midbass in the rear holes after sealing/matting the little spaces. Kept full range going to the front to let the crossover deal with, and switched my amp to low-pass for the rear midbass.
For the record, I had a Kenwood 4-channel and Alpine mono with a Kenwood DNX7120 headunit. Sounded great.

I'd definitely utilize that 9835. I had one when I did the first system in my Z and I loved it; great headunit!
If you "had" (I personally wouldn't pick a JL sub, but that is me) to pick a JL sub and your were looking for clarity I'd tell you to pick up a W6 over a W7.

What sub would would you recommend for clarity if not a JL?

I'm running focals all around with a JL audio 10w6. Have two JL audio amps to run them. a 500/4 and a 750/1. I used the JL HD amps to try and avoid having to run a capacitor, and it worked out for about 95% of the time. The other 5% there is just minor flicker of the dash lights. Also the HD amps are smaller and can be put in numerous places. Both of mine are in the little map cubby things behind the seats.

Its way too nice of a HU to just be collecting dust. I've had many offer for it, but never could part with it. The Eclipse isn't bad, but I don't see any advantages to it over the 9835 except DVD and I dont even use that.

If you're ballin' like Kwame, you can go for a SEAS sub

SQ = sound quality
SPL/SQ or "SQL" = both
Honestly, I intended on getting an IDMAX but decided that I didn't want to get a big power sub again since I had a W7 in it before. The IDMAX is a cheaper and better sub than the W7 from what I've heard.
