Default Headunit without sub preamp

The unit doesn't have a sub preamp.

If I used the rear as a sub, that means I lose the rear channels?

I would need to use a splitter from the front channel for the rear too?

What if I want to just power the front with an amp and use the headunit to power the rear. I won't have any problem?

*** outputs: 4-channel preamp outputs (front, rear/sub) — rear outputs switchable to subwoofer mode with bass level control

Thats what I want to do. Have the headunit power the rear. I am just concern about the unit not producing any sound when it is switch to sub.

It is a good question. Does using the pre-amplifier interrupt power amplifier output? I also want to know.

the difference in rear out and sub out is that sub out has controls on your head unit. Nothing ells. Rear out can be used as sub connections. You just do not have the capability of controlling it.

Your answer is correct.

The posts/questions after your message are mostly concerned with SubW operation (Will this H/U work with a SubW?)

As you point out, it will drive a SubW using the rear channels for this, but this H/U does not have a dedicated SubW control. Muzzy makes the same point in his reply:

I like your advice: “Or just get a better head unit.”

tractng obviously wants a H/U that provides dedicated SubW control, so he should abandon this model and look for a H/U that provides the features he wants.

I just bought the unit walkingdead930 suggested (Pioneer deh-p6200bt).

I plan to do the install in small incremental. At this point, I am not sure about running the amp for the speakers, but for sure a sub. I can just pre-install the rca interconnect and remote wire (for the sub) ahead of time and just cap them off so down the road I can use them. Is this correct?

Its been a while I hook up the system.

Thanks,
tractng
