Yesterday while driving I had this weird problem with my head unit. My headunit froze but the music was still playing. Afterwards I turned off my car and the headunit wouldnt turn on, but the amp light was still on. After doing some research I found out that taking out the remote wire from my two amps turns them off. With the key not in the ignition, if I put the wires back in they turn on. So my question is whats the problem with my amps? and do you think I will have to replace my headunit? It's fairly new, not even a year and I've had the amps since 2007. The amps are Infinity Reference 1100a and 475a and headunit is kenwood dnx5140.
Your h/u is what send the message to your amps to turn on or off. Its your h/u thats faulty not your amps. Try reseting the h/u and after all was said and done did it operate normally
have you had the amps and headunit wired the same before this happened?
have you taken apart (re-wired) anything lately?
did it just happen for no specific reason?
Yeah this problem happened for no reason. I was just driving my car, tried to change the song but the headunit wouldnt respond. Shut off my car turned it back on, the headunit wouldn't turn on.

Could it be faulty wiring maybe coming out of the headunit? Or are you certain that it's the headunit, because I'm sure this headunit may be out of warranty. The only way I know of resetting the headunit is the little button on the front of the unit, and that hasn't given me any luck. Right now I have the remote wire disconnected from my amps.
If you have a dimm or a test light see if the remote wire has any current running through it. Since your hu went dim but still plays who knows what all is wrong with it.

Ill have to check that out soon. Also to clarify my headunit doesnt play music anymore, it won't turn on. It was playing music when the problem started but now the amp light just stays on and the headunit stays off. Can't powerup anything.
