I have an '03 Track with the factory NAV and am finally up to gutting the stereo and replacing everything. I have been looking at the Pioneer DEH-P8500MP and its Premier counterpart. I have read somewhere about the muting repuirement to be able to use the little friendly voice with the NAV system. Anyone know if this stereo has this capability? If not, what would anyone suggest. I was reading a thread about some sort of EE stuff....way out of my league. Don't really want to fry my NAV system just to hear a little voice. As you can tell, I like the Pioneer/Premier because of its looks first, then function second. I did see the Sony thing from Japan, but I don't use MD.......the MP3 sounds more appealing to me. Anyway, I'm open to suggestions. Doint the speakers this weekend when my car gets out of the body shop. Not a crash....just cosmetics.

I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-mp840 and it has the muting capability you are talking about. The only problem is this...the mute line from the factory nav, is differnet than what the Pioneer is looking for as an input (high instead of low). So, I had to modify the signal with a seperate circuit. Essentially, I added a transistor, to monitor the nav mute line, and switch the relay to which then supplies the proper signal (grounded is muted) to the Pioneer head unit. I have a better explanation posted in the forums which you can see at the link below. Its not difficult to hook up, and uses a $2 transistor adn $4 relay and some 14 guage wires.

Don't forget one important thing...any aftermarket head unit, will not have an input to drive the nav voice. So if you do not want to lose the voice, you will have to add an extra speaker under the seat to play the nav voice--no amplification is necessary, as the nav system seems to be loud enough on mine. I am using a Boston Pro 4" (spare I had laying around), which is a 4 ohm driver. Any el-cheapo speaker should be good enough for the nav voice, even crummy Bose speakers or stock speakers you are probably taking out duting your install.
Let me know if you need any help, and I can probably even wire one of these up for you, if you are totally lost, as long as you pay me a little for the parts and for my time...feel free to ask any other questions.

I was wondering.......instead of wiring in a separate speaker to play the nav voice through, couldn't you just wire the voice through one of the door speakers? I know some vehicles, particularry the Acura MDX, plays the voice through all the speakers and automatically mutes the music to tell you directions. Just wondering if it is possible to do this with our systems and aftermarket HU's.
you can do that... I didn't do it, simply because it was easier to put a seperate speaker under the seat. You can tap into the wires beforethey go through the door grommet, but I didn't want to cut or splice any wires. Also, you need to make absolutely sure that your head unit will mute the circuit properly before you hook up 2 sources to the same speaker... this is why I like using a seperate speaker a little better...
