JL 10IB4 Installed - Stock Location
I had my JL 10IB4 free-air 10" subwoofer installed today in the factory bose sub location.
They dynamatted the compartment and added polly-fill. In addition they dynamatted and sealed the subwoofer bracket. What a huge difference!
After reading the many posts on this board regarding the poor sound quality and rattling I wasn't expecting much. I didn't want to wait for the JL Stealth Box or a spend a lot on a Custom Box. However, it really does sound good! No rattles (yet) and the bass is tight. It definately does not sound as nice as a sealed box sitting in the trunk but for the price and the fact that it is so space saving I was very satisfied. I listen to all types of music hip-hop, dance, alternative and everything sounded good. It doesn't boom to the point where you can hear me coming down the street but does produce nice clean, tight bass to augment the stock stereo setup.

I took it to Stereo City, a little mom and pop shop in Culver City based on the advice of many on these boards to avoid the big chains (a&e, cc, bb). They did a great job! It was $160 for everything, I supplied the amp, sub, and nissan bose panel. They installed the amp and connected it to the stock HU, mounted the sub in the stock location using dynamat, polyfill, sealer for random holes, etc. The also installed a switch onto the nissan bose panel so that I can turn the sub off in case I get tired of bass hitting my back during long road trips. So in total:
Sony 2-Channel Amp - Very old so I don't remember the cost
JL 10IB4 Free-Air Sub - $41 + $25 ship on ebay
Install - $160
An awesome upgrade for me for a little over $200.

I got the bose subwoofer panel/grill from courtesy parts . The installer used the existing stock metal subwoofer bracket. However, they added tons of dynamat to the bracket and enclosure and added polyfill. Make sure you get a Free-Air Sub or since the stock enclosure is far from air tight. The JL may be difficult to find but I think Pioneer makes one that is decent.
