Default Please Help Aftermarket HU problems

I'm in the process of installing an Alpine HU. Aftert installing my scoche wiring harness and connecting all of the wires, I've found that i get a very faint sound when my volume is cranked up. I decided to install the HU because the Bose unit stopped outputting sound. The old head unit would function but nothing came out of the speakers. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong. Thanks.

i dont have a bose system but just a couple options to consider...

1. if there was no sound before the new HU...maybe the bose amps for the speakers (i believe bose has separate amps for their speakers) or the bose speakers themselves have gone bad...hook up a 9 volt battery to the bose speakers (if you can)...and make sure the speakers move in or out...this will test the functionality of the speakers at least...

2. whenever installing an aftermarket HU with a bose system...there are certain adapters that are necessary...bose uses really low impedance speakers and they may not work well with aftermarket HU without the correct adapter (at least this is my understanding)...you can probably google it or search the forums as it has been covered here numerous times over...

3. honestly...your best bet is to replace the bose speakers with aftermarket speakers and power them with an external amp...just use the aftermarket HU to send RCA signals to the amp...another decent option would be to replace the bose speakers and power them with the aftermarket HU...

Its most likely your Bose amplifier which is located in the trunk to the left of the spare tire. If it is toast you can either bypass it or replace it with a used Bose amplfier. I'll sell you mine if you are interested.

Thanks guys. How would I bypass the amp if it is shot? I'm a noob when it comes to audio installation.

i dont know enough about the bose systems to correctly answer that question...but i imagine you essentially have to "wire around it"...maybe i will just leave that question for someone else...

but once again...best bet is to replace the stock speakers and power them with an external amplifier...if that is not possible due to time/budget...then just replace the stock speakers and power them directly with your HU...just wire the aftermarket speakers directly to the HU...and you should be okay with using the stock wiring as well if you only use the HU to power the aftermarket speakers...

Default yep..

then leave it to a pro.. stereo work is very cheap when compared to other auto work, and is quite specialized. Most things can only be done correctly ONE way, best to not expirement.

I would love to explain how to bypass the amp but I simply do not have the time to do it here. If you were in my neighbourhood and had a case of beer then that may be a different story.
