Default double din install troubles

My car had a pioneer D3 in it when I bought it but I wanted to replace it with my pioneer avh-4200dvd. Both are double din unit. The problem I'm having is with the meta kit not fitting flush. The little pins on the trim piece don't fit in the holes at the top of the factory bracket. And then none of the holes line up with the radio. Anyone else have this problem?

You need to oval out the holes in the oem side brackets that hold the radio in. Then the radio will sit further in and the trim piece will fit.

And, no head unit will ever fit completely flush, as the surface of the console is curved.

I realize that but I figured the trim kit would atleast fit flush with the dash.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were talking about just the kit. I'm not sure what brand Crutchfield sent me for my '08, but it fits perfectly flush on all 4 sides. The HU is flush top and bottom, but the sides stick out just a little.

You're saying the metra kit doesn't fit flush? It should, so I'm not sure why it's not. Granted I have an '03, but I'm assuming the 06+ version would fit well too.

In any case, without redrilling holes in the stock brackets, the headunit's holes will not line up perfectly... and the headunit's face will stick out a half-inch or so. You'll have to redrill more holes. It's a pain, but if you take your time and measure properly, you won't have to mess with it again.
