Well I originally went with the Zenclosure for 2 10s fits under the strut bar with a combined air space of .7 without displacement, .7/2=.35 - .12 = .22 cubic feet without displacement. I was told to use this by Nick. I wasnt impressed and thought the speakers werent efficient at all due to the small box so I decided to make a bigger box still sealed. I went with .4 cubic feet after displacement. I was moving in the direction of sounding better but the speakers still didnt seem too efficient. So after seeing 1 15 and 2 12 ported in the rear I was going to go that route. I emailed nick and told him i was not happy with the speakers and wanted his opinion. I purchased the 10 FI Q loaded with high QTS so i though ported was out of the question. Nick replied and said go ported. I replied, I though I couldnt go ported due to my high QTS option. He said the speakers are actually not high but mid QTS. So i went ahead and made a ported box yesterday. I used the box design from soundsolutionsaudio.com under cutsheets for FI Q. The box was drawn out for 1 10 but i improvised and doubled it up and made it for 2 10s. The internal cubic feet is 2.5 cubic feet. To say the least I am exstatic now the speakers came alive.

I am still having problems with my voltage though but not for long. Tom from ohio generator called me today saying that the installer who installed my alternator some how off set the stator and caused it to rub against the inside case. He said he will be replacing all the internals of my alternator and be returning it to me tomorrow.

My current electrical is 800 cca battery up front, 2 kinetik 1800 in the back with 0 guage run from front to back. I have grounding kit up front, 0 batt to chasis and will reinstall 0 guage from alternator to front battery when I put alternator back in. As is even with 3 batteries I can give more than 2/3 power and stay in 13s. So hopefully once I get my alternator back in, all my problems will be solved. The alternator is rated at 275 amps but the birth sheet stated 313 amps.

Pics soon to come.

Thanks for all the ideas!!!

sounds good as long as your happy.

ported is the way to go if output is a concern.

how much was your alt from ohio gen? i have emailed everyonje else but him for a price quote.

also what amp are your running? also where are your subs and port facing? this can also make a difference in sound and output.

I am very happy thanks to all the great ideas here on this forum. I am running a crescendo BC 2000 at 1 ohm.

My alternator was $580 shipped. I was obviously unhappy with the alternator initially as it was having problems holding voltage but I am glad I went with ohio generator because I dont know any other company that would fix an installers mishap. He said replacing the stator was more than half the price of the alternator but that he would fix it at no charge. Once I get it back and reinstall it in my car I will let you guys know how it works and if my problems are resolved. To tell you the truth I find myself not having as much problems with volts now that i have the ported box now. I noticed low hertz notes (30 & 40s) draw less amperage than higher notes (70-80s). Seems weird to me especially since those notes make my car expand.

Box is ports up on passenger side and subs up middle of car and driver side.

Ill try to remember to post the pics tonight. Ill do before and after the paneling. I have pics on my cell phone right now but they are over the allowed megapix.

If you guy dont mind telling me how id like to post a video once I record one.

Sorry Port up, one slotted port.

This is where i got the dimensions for my box.

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/f...es-cut-sheets/

Second box down. FI Q 10" fully loaded, including high QTS. The box on that site is designed for one 10 but i just doubled up the internal space and made it a total 2.5 sq ft.

This is my first ported box and ILL NEVER GO SEALED AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER!!! LOL

Ive been looking for a thread kinda like this so i thought i would ask something....I had 2 12in older RE ssx hybrids that i had in my honda and i thought i could put one in the Z but i didnt think i had enough room so i thought maybe a beast 10 of some sort?? I wanna build a good ported box but wasnt sure i should go 10 or 12. I just dont wanna gut it out to make it fit, I want everything to stay in place. So anyone know the dimensions i could use for a daily street beat setup??

sqbasshead actually has a build thread on here somewhere. He removed the compartments and was building a box for 2 jl 13w7's.

MyLTwon, yes you are correct we do have similar equipment (subs, and amp), except Im a notch down from you. Your thread posting bare trunk measurements, pics your box and 350ZSZPL's recommendation of subwoofeer, port placement inspired me to make my box. I greatly appreciate you and 350ZSPL sharing your knowledge and experience with your builds. I was about to give up on my FI Q's because they werent giving me the output I wanted and expected with spending 750 bucks on them with 2200 watts. Once I built this box my car came alive and I became a fan of FI subs and Ported boxes.

Im not sure if you read my previous post but I was having alot of problems with my volts keep dropping. I a 800 cca batt up front and 2 1800 kinetixs in the the rear gloves (one in each) and a Ohio generator alternator 275 rated amp alternator. Once i went 1 ohm the problems started. With the Ohio Alt and at idle i would be at 13.6, once i cranked it up, my volt if i held volume up for 5 minutes would drop to high 11s. I tried changing my ground several times but no help. So I called Tom at Ohio and he said send it to me and ill check it out. I sent it and once he received and tested it he said my mechanic that installed the alt. messed it up by bending the shaft of the pulley which caused the stator to rub against the inside back of the casing. He replaced all the guts and reshipped free of charge. SO in the mean time I have been running my stock alt. I did see improvement, idles at 14 - 14.4. I can still see significant drop in volts if i play loud enough but still better than before.

Changing my box allowed me to notice that my old sealed box was making my FI Q's very inefficient and I needed to push amp to full potential to get decent output. Without alt working properly and this amp at 1 ohm caused my batteries to be sucked dry. With new box and I was able to get a significant improvement in output with the amp only pushing 1/2 or 2/3 of its potential and stay within mid 13 volt range.

I just received my alternator back today so I am super excited to get it back in and see what kind of potential i will have afterwards because right now as i am it slams hard. So i can just imagine once I can see the amp at full tilt with sufficient voltage. Fingers crossed.

Yes, I do want to get it metered. Id like to see what it does. To tell you the truth even if I dont hit my goal at first I am very impressed how accurate, controlled, and earth moving my low notes are.

Id like to take my car to a spl contest. When is the next competiton in Miami. I dont care about winning its more for fun, seeing other cars and hanging out.

Yes when I had the single 12 I had to bolt it down lol. The 2 12s is so wedged in there it doesn't move. Get some vids of your setup id like to see it in action.

Sorry man I didnt know you replied untill now. Why does this thread not send an email notification when someone posts on the thread?

Anyhow Ill try to make a video tomorrow, I just got done building another box for the 10s. First when I added the second amp (1 ohm strapped, nominal 4700 watts) the speakers hyper extended and made a popping noise when i cranked up a little too loud. So after a couple of days adjusting, adjusting and adjusting I decided to open the hatch and listen to the speakers up close and I saw the box hopping around in the trunk. Seriously it was jumping atleast 1/2 inch. So I held the box down and I was able to raise the volume some more without making the noise. So I bolted the box down. Then the next day I noticed I was breaking screws and some were reversing. LOL. So I then decided to double baffle the top and I was able to get even more volume out of them. For some reason they sound a little better that day. The next day when I listened to them they were much much louder. Im talking loud enough for me to be pretty happy. It was loud but when i really cranked it i heard a rattle so I thought it was my rear wiper. Turns out I went to listen close again and what happened is the speakers were able to loosen my port to the point where it rattled at full tilt.

So today when i built my box I made it bullet proof, well sort of. I double baffled the top, and put a support beam under the port so I could screw it to in the middle to prevent any type of ratttle. So fingers crossed tomorrow should be a great day when I throw this bad boy in.

I already have 3 kinetik (2 -1800 and 1 - 2000) in there and tuesday my second 2000 comes in. So cant wait on that either.

BTW i wanted to give you props on your db video, I saw you hit 149 or 150 i dont remember. NICE man. I cant wait to measure mine.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
