After Years of Crappy Best Buy Components... FINALLY!!
CDT Audio ES-620 Golds! w00t! $800 new, got them gently used off the www.caraudio.com market for $270 shipped.
CDT Audio systems in the Eurosport line utilize a 26mm soft dome tweeter a matching crossover and a large selection of mid/woofers in either of two configurations, separate drivers or quasi-coaxial Braxial configurations.
All mid/woofers utilize Kevlar fabric cones with semi-soft polymer domes and rubber surrounds. These superior divers feature virtually unlimited life and extreme "quietness". Ultra low distortion and smoothly controlled roll-off characteristics are provided.
The specific grain oriented construction exemplified in Kevlar fabric cones ensures that so called break-up is organized into a controlled polar oriented vibration modality that precludes harsh bell modes or random breakup. The result is astounding naturalness and precision. The measurements show smooth extension and glitch-free roll-off. The soft dome Euro tweeter has the classic dome shape and an ultra smooth response shape. This tweeter with its' excellent power handling ability is further cultured by the matching crossover that corrects the smoothly sloped response shape and corrects that shape. This improved shape is flatter and more extended as a result thereby giving the power handling benefit of a larger soft dome with the power response profile of a lower power handling 19 mm size driver. This is critical to natural airy sound yet with authority.
The two drivers are then also interfaced with each other with a proprietary crossover using an elliptical high-pass characteristic. This type of filter utilizes intra circuit phase relationships to produce rapid response changes. Within a narrow band signal cancellation by subtraction occurs allowing a rapid response roll-off without the attendant transient response smear and complexity of conventional high order filters. A negligible group delay characterizes this rapid shift, which essentially prevents the tweeter from interfering with the mid/woofer's smooth roll-off. The woofer is faded out gradually and smoothly, as this method is consistent with the best, perceived sound. The mid/woofer since it builds the body of the sound must be faded out cleanly and unobtrusively so the last faint high frequency sounds from it remain realistically connected to the lower frequency body of the sound. The result already very refined is stunningly accompanied by the rapid introduction of the precise relatively widely dispersed (compared to the mid/woofer at the crossover frequency) tweeter.

Condition: 8/10
The woofers and crossovers are 9.9/10, pretty much in perfect condition besides a little dust, lol.
The tweeters (see pics) have some residue from the glue I used to mount them to a custom bracket for my mustang. They look a little rough around the edges but perform flawlessly..
Shipping and Miscellaneous Item Information:
Comes with:
Midrange: (2) 6.5" Cast woofers
Crossover: (2) Transient Optimized Elliptic 4th order 2-way crossovers (SatNet 480)
Tweeter: (2) DRT-25S 1" silk tweeter

Now comes the decision on how to set them up... I'm thinking they need to be in door pods as they are pretty deep and may hit the window. Anyone have a used set? I will be running them off of an old school Zapco 400.

Looking at the pics they don't look much deeper than my Polk/Momo 6.5"s. If you havent already tore down the stock speakers and used the plastic trim that's left over as your speaker mounting point, try it. Much cheaper than buying the pods and worth a try if you're budget minded. Good luck and good choice on your front stage

i had the cdt es gold but a bit newer than this set you have
with the 560I crossovers
i would put them in kicks if i where you
but if your budget does not allow than pods will be next best
use a ton of deadner
and they like at the very least 150 watts per pair , you can even let a pair share 250 watts
cross them over at around 90 hertz
wish i would have know you like them i would have sold you my set

Well, went to check fitment in the stock speaker mount plastic and the basket is too large to fit them. The basket on these comes almost to the edge of the trim ring. Sooo...
Ordered a set of unfinished Pods from WickedCAS! w00t Can't wait to hear these bad boys.
Travis, what should I use for deadener. I have a ton of non hardening modeling clay. How should it be applied? Any suggestions for mounting them?

i would use peel and stick deadner it is what i use
i prefer stinger road kill, but dynamat is okay if you prefer
make sure you wipe the surface down with alcohol and a clean rag prior to placing the deadner, then use a roller to apply even pressure
you can buy a door kit of deadner BUT with a door kit the pieces are small and only enough to do the door , the door kits run like $50-75 , or you can buy a bulk pack 36 sq feet of larger sheets and you get like 5 times the amount of deadner for like $100-$125 , you can use the rest in your hatch area of where ever you wish
i have about 125 sq feet of deadner in my 350z
deaden the inside of the doors and the inside of the pods , and the inside of the door panels if you get the 36 sq ft bulk pack
if you have the 5601 cdt crossover choose the +3 db for the tweets
set the HP filter on your amp to 80-90 hertz
car audio is install dependant
taking the extra time pays off in the end
using a bunch of deadner will reduce door panel rattle greatly
also it will increase your mid bass
the pods will let you mount the speakers without issue

he probably means to high pass them at 90hz using the xover built into the amp. you'll still use the passive xover for the speakers. if you have a 4 channel amp, another option would be to run them active. personally, i would cross them over a little lower but that depends on how you how you have them mounted and the sub you're using.

Why is that, Trav? There is an equation there that will produce a fixed frequency isn't there? Basically if the crossover that comes with the components is at 90Hz and the amp is at say, 120Hz, the components will be crossed over at 120Hz because that is the highest frequency and that is what the speakers will see being that the amp is first in the circuit. Right? Or are the xovers that some with components just crap?
I used to do that with my subs and found the xover in the amp was better than the built in one in my radio even though they were set about the same...

From my understanding the crossover that comes with component speakers Only divides the frequencies between the tweeter and the woofer.. Say 4500hz+ to tweeters and everything under to woofer without a bottom or top end filtration. So your woofers would receive frequencies as low as 22hz which could damage them as well as distort the sound. Setting ur high pass at 90hz would prevent this.

Don't ever use two crossovers!
Send a full range signal to the speakers, let the passive take care of it. Only better way is to use a fully active system where you bi-amplify and run digital crossovers.

That thread is incorrect... The only reason car amplifiers have built in crossovers (with crappy components) is that most people will connect them directly to a speaker.
Using a 2 or 3 way system with a passive crossover has everything it needs to filter out frequencies. In a 2 way, it will contain a low pass and a high pass, the driver will roll off the rest naturally.
In a 3 way, it will be a low, bandpass, and a high pass crossover. My hobbies are more geared around 2 way home audio but I'm sure the principles remain..
