Which sub or subs for zenclosure
Hello guys,
I'm currently finishing up putting together all audio equipment before my install but I'm stuck. I'm having difficulty deciding if I should go with one 10 or 2 10's with a zenclosure. Also, from talking to Mike at zenclosures, not all subs fitment work with the zenclosures. From your experience, which subs (Model #) work with the zenclosure (I have a very small budget) and is it best to just go with one 10 or 2 10's?
Also, I have read different things when it comes to installing the amp in the glove box, will it overheat or is it possible to install it under the passenger seat?
Note: I will be running a 500rms 2 channel amp.
Thank You for your time.

I am running one Alpine 10 inch type r dual 4 ohm voice coil sub powered by an Alpine PDX 1.600 that is installed in the glove box behind the passenger with absolutely no overheating problems. But iirc these PDX amps are built to stay cool even when heavily loaded/played hard.
The sub is in a zenclosure under strut bar type box I found on ebay that has just about the same specs. It seems like my sub would like a little more air space to play to its full potential but the sound quality and overall sound is pretty good.
I have had three different Alpine amps powering the single 10. This PDX is highly recommended for power, sound, and reliability.

It's all about chamber airpace and depth.
Every sub you consider, has a website, that you can get specs for.
Things you might wanna match between your subs and your enclosure chamber specs.
- Airspace and Optimal Airspace Required from sub
- Depth of chamber
- Hole diameter measurement.
Also , notice that Zenclosure has 2 models of the 10" enclosure. The one that takes only the space from under the strut bar, and the one that extends back more for bigger chamber space.
Smaller Enclosure:
http://www.zenclosures.com/Nissan_35...Box_p/z210.htm
Bigger Enclosure, with amp rack in the back (The one I have):
http://www.zenclosures.com/Nissan_35...x_p/z210ar.htm
For example. This is my install. https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-v...s-install.html
The Enclosure specs:
Mounting depth - 9.00"
Mounting hole diameter - 9 1/8"
Airspace Volume- 70ft^3 per chamber
My Sub Specs:
Mounting Depth - 6.4"
Mounting Hole Diameter - 9.3"
Optimal Airspace Volume Sealed: 0.65ft^3
I had to shave off the diameter a bit, but i got a nice fit out of it.

i had the larger box ( pictured like above) and ran one single 10w7 with amazing results off limited power.
Its hole is smaller than other 10" subs tho.. be aware.
I turned a cornrer recently tho....and weight savings is more important than huge bass to me now, ( i had replaced the zenclusre w one 10w7 w a TC ccusomts figberglass enclusre w 2 10w7s.. no w run a 13tw5 in the cubby location)
so IMO.. id say go with a pair of JL audio W3s and call it a day. Get the thinner box as well. Email Zenclosures and ask if the w3s will fit. They are good and very cheap. As someone who sold both ALpine and JL for a long time, Alpine subs are getting better, but are still not JL in terms of low end extension.. which is what you want.
btw, i spent 120 on my cubby box and 350 on my flat sub and its very loud. 30 lbs total and zero space taken up.
I turned it down quite a bit tho to maintain level sound.

I have the same larger Zenclosure box as above and my single 10" Kenwood Excelon sub fit perfectly. I'm running it on a JL Audio XD700 5 channel amp that's in the glove compartment behind the passenger seat. It never overheats and sounds outstanding with my Focal components.

what's up with everyone in the audio section worried about weight? 50lbs,100lbs you won't feel the difference. 350z's are slow anyway and take a nice chunk of money to go fast, so i see no point in weight saving esspecialy on a weak all motor z. you people puttin bigger rims, body kits, that sorta thing will slow you down more then a system.

Thank You to everyone for your suggestions. I ended up getting the 10 inch kicker solo baric sub with the square box with zenclosures. I placed the amp under the passenger and it fit perfectly.
The sound out of the solobaric is incredible, I would highly recommend this to anyone. The sub hits hard and clean.
Oh, sorry for the delay in replying to this thread, my computer was having repairs done and my password for the forum was saved in it
Thanks Again,
Carlos Perez
