How I got rid of the FM modulator
Okay, I meant to post this months ago after doing this "mod" until I had a pic of it, but, since I still don't have a digital camera
I thought I'd just post it anyway. And I don't think anyone's done this yet.
I've been a happy user of Chazzg's InZPC and Alphared's cool interface but I just couldn't take that damn FM modulator anymore! Sucked like hell. So I decided to use the tape adapter instead, because I have the Bose HU.
BUT, I also wasn't gonna live with a stupid wire hanging from the dashboard. So, I removed the faceplate of the Bose HU and ran the wire BEHIND it! So voila, can't see no wire, and the sound is SOOOOOO much better than the FM modulator! Now when I want to use the InZPC, I just hit the TAPE button, no stupid FM modulator switch! It looks and sounds so cleeeean.
If anyone wants to follow suit, I have 2 suggestions, though.
1. Get a good tape adapter that runs quietly. Might wanna test it out somewhere first because this is gonna be a semi-permanent installation.
2. Allow enough slack in the wire from the tape deck so that you can always eject the adapter in case you ever need to play a tape (NEVER, I know, I know).
I'll never go back to the modulator now.

OZ, this is exactly what I was referring to... it may be worth looking into for your application, and from this thread, the sound quality sounds alot more promising then ripping apart the deck and trying to tap into the tape's input head.
OZ:
Well, I’ve said in the BOSE thread that I am happy with the latest BOSE fix, so I actually enjoy listening to the CD now.
With the tape adapter, you’ll still be listening to the BOSE. I've read Dr. Bonz and others say that they can make the mp3s on their InZPC sound better than the CDs, but I’ve never been able to replicate that myself. Maybe I’m not using the same software they’re using.
But anyway, with the tape adapter, the sound from the computer is like twice as loud as it was when I was using the FM modulator. And also, it’s really nice not to have to hit the FM modulator switch, then set the HU to FM and set to the right frequency just to use the InZPC. I just hit the TAPE button on the HU, so cool. The TAPE button might as well read PC now.
I don’t know if that helped, but, why don’t you just get one and test it out for yourself first b4 going thru the trouble of installing it behind the faceplate?
