Cops almost never use X band anymore. K, and Ka are the number one radar frequencies used now I believe. That and of course laser.

Yeah. . . I was going down the highway in the "L" setting and saw a cop off the side of the road (looked like he was shooting radar) and was hidden. . .

My radar wasn't making a sound. . . so I switched my mode to "R" and still no noise coming from the V1!

I drove right past him (speed limit of course) and it never made a noise. Then I drove past a Target down the road and it was making all types of noises!

Maybe the cop just didn't have his Radar/Laser on? That got me very worried.

The Doc is correct saying that the X-band isn't used anymore it's a thing of the past. The radar that cops use in their patrol cars are K and KA with KA being the newest one. I rarely ever get a false KA alert so when it beeps KA SLOW DOWN and fast! I disabled my X-band on my 8500 the first day I got it and it's probably saved me over 20 times in 6 months! If the V1 has the option to disable the X band do it and save yourself the hassle of false alarms.

I'll dig up the manual and take a look into diabling the XBand.

After the X Band is disabled. . . do you still reccomend staying in the "L" Mode, or should I go back to "R" ?

Look on the V1 website...they have a list of "hidden" options you can turn on/off, such as specific bands.

the V1 website also says that certain brake lights in front of you will set off the V1. Maybe it's getting a reflection from your brake light off the glass and setting off the laser detection?

The cop you passed most likely didn't have anything on. If he had K or Ka it would have sounded reguardless of the mode you had your detector in.

Yes, some LED brakelights on SUVs will set off your laser but this sounds completely different then when your radar warning (i.e. there are different "beeps") and you'd know from that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "R" mode. I bought mine in August 02 and I have A, l (small L) and L modes.

The "A" mode signals at the highest set volume (regular volume, not the outer ring quieted volume) for ANY and ALL signals it detects.

The small L mode will sound for ANY and ALL signals but if the signal is K, Ka, or laser it uses the loudest volume and if it detects X band, it signals with the quieter volume (the one you set with the outer control ****)

In L (big L) mode, it signals for K, Ka, and Laser but not for X.

I have another V-1 that I got in 1993 and it does the same thing.

When did you get yours?

I'll take a look at V1's website for the hidden options. Dr.Bonz - thanks for your overview of the bands! I read the manual a few times, but still wasn't too clear to me :-)

Now I have to find a good car alarm. I went to a local installer and they quoted me 930.00 for an Autopage RS850 with just the alarm, remote start, and module to roll down and up your windows! That's crazy high!

One thing to remember is that the V1 is very sensitive and anything that is opperating in the police radar bands could set it off.

Also I am not sure about other parts of the country but here in atlanta the DOT Has put up Radar stations to check the speed of traffic, not for ticketing but to check average speed of the traffic.

Once you learn the V1 you will be able to tell if something is a false alarm or a real threat

Hey Nissan350z. . . from your avatar, it looks like you have a different light rather than the stock amber in your headlight. . . what is that? Looks very clean.

I havent made any mods to my headlights. I guess it's just the way the pic came out

Looks good :-) Kinda looks like you had some type of xenon light in with that bluish tint.
