So I thought I knew what I was doing...
Hopefully you guys can spot an obvious error in my methodologies and this will be a simple fix. I've done several audio installs before, but never a component set.
Got my components, but don't have amps/amp rack set up yet, was still curious to see how they sounded. Popped them in using factory wiring, and noticed frequent tweeter pop at about 66% volume. I figured that the OEM deck must not use an internal crossover so my tweeters were getting the full range of sound input, so today I installed the crossover and it sounded like complete garbage, tons of distortion over 10% volume. I cut the input to the door mids, ran that as the x-over input, then ran wires to the tweeter and mid, tying off the factory tweeter wires + to -.
After that, I went back to the original set up, had a very clear and loud passenger tweeter but a lot of distortion in my drivers side tweeter. Switched them out real quick, now had a good drivers side and bad passenger side. Concerning the tweeters, I presume I either have bad wiring somewhere or an F'ed up tweeter. But what the hell did I do wrong with the crossover?
Thanks for any input. I did search the forums for an answer to this, and I'm sure someone has already answered another noob's similar issue, but I couldn't find it myself. For that I apologize.

Just looked up the wiring schematics and realized that I had the polarities switched on the tweeters. Probably why I'm getting the pop from them. That would have been bypassed by the x-over though since I know I ran those leads correctly.

No enough info to know for sure, but a shot in the dark is that the impedence of the component system is lower than the stock speakers and may have overdrawn the factory radio or amp.
Always always always run new wire for components. The extra 15 minutes is well worth it in my opinion. Plus, when the time comes to do an amp, you'll already have wires ran
