get line level converters (any stereo shop, I think I paid less than $20 from circuit city) to convert the speaker signal to rca, if you don't you will probably get noise. I power the amp from the cig. lighter in the rear, my amp is in the glove box.

Kick that stock head unit to the curb. That unit is the root of all evil. Its sound reproduction is horrible. You'll spend months trying to get that thing to sound right, only in the end to throw it away. Save yourself the greef.

How can you power the amp from your cig lighter? Don't you need to wire that to the battery? Do you mean the remote line? How many watts is your amp?

here's my question!!! ? I have already bought an amp and simply want to install two subs along with the existing system. As the speakers blow, I will replace them with the best! (no one is doing anything with the old speakers anyway right) I can't figure out how to get RCA wires out of the existing head unit and still have all of the other speakers playing too! I understand the concept of the plugs you buy from circuit city. I have a unit in my sebring convertable and it makes the contection nice. But I want to add to the system in my Z.

Default Kick sotck unit to curb???

The stock unit is excellent, you ignorant wretch. It is CLARION, not Bose. Bose fu*(&((*^& up everything they try to do in car audio. They had that one radio that was small, had two speakers and went in the kitchen. they rode on that for 2-3 years, and tried to reproduce the same in car's. They failed miserably. Clarion, however - is still good, and has done well with the factory HU. You just need to pull an unamplified signal from it. WHICH I CANT FIND THE GODDAM INFOR FOR ANYWHERE! Its 4am, my car is spread all over my garage, my back yard, my neigbors front yard, and I want to drive the *****.

CAN ANYONE GET ME THE *&(^*&^ wiring harness info for the rear of the head unit?????? I have NAV, and need the wiring for all THREE harnesses. I am also installing a secondary DVD player, and XM radio. If there is any better way of installing the XM radio let me know! (other than modulater)

here is the wiring harness diagram (sorry no nav):

http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Nissan-Wiring.pdf

I have used it and it is accurate

I have the non-Bose Stock radio too and it sounds pretty good to me--not horrible like everyone makes it out to be. All I simply did was install some Infinity 6000CS components in the front and an Infinity Basslink in the stock cubby hole. It's no IASCA competition system (which I used to do BTW) but I am very satisfied with the results.

The stock headunit can sound better than an aftermarket HU if you use a good line converter from someone such as this....

http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm

It’s funny, but many of the stock HU's are built better than aftermarket HU's and many competitors have won sound competitions using line output converters with a stock HU.

Thnx Guys!!

Just exactly what I needed! Gonna get this thing back on the road, getting speeding tickets (and excessive noise tickets) like its supposed to! (Jk)

I was stalled all weekend cuz I didnt have that diagram.

As for head unit....We would need some sophisticated equipment to notice any change in quality from an aftermarket unit. In fact, most aftermarket units are made with sub-par components given to the lowest bidder from (guess where?!) CHINA.

I also read that the head unit in most newer cars is supposed to deliver (non amplified signal only) at extremely high quality. Its the amp & the rest of the system they shirk on. For one - they don't believe any of us are stupid enough to ruin our hearing intentionally, so why make it so deafening....second, QUALITY of sound is what they strive for. They go costly on the reproduction of sound(replaying of), cheap on distribution/amplification and delivery of sound. Check it out, they use Clarion for the head unit. Ferrari currently, or up to a couple years ago(I haven' t looked at their recent cars) uses/used Clarion. It can't be THAT bad, right? In a 200K+ car....only the BEST goes in.

So enjoy your head unit, and the fact we were smart enough to save the 300-900 bucks on a unit that, in my opinion, tears up the factory, clean look of the car!!
