Smile noob audio question :)

So currently right now. THis is my set up below. I was wondering if having a deck with a 2v pre out compared to a 4-5v out I would notice a difference

Alpine Type R Fronts
Alpine type S Rears
Mb Quarts tweeters
Boston G3 10" sub
Mono alpine 500watt amp for sub
4 channel 400 watt amp for speakers.

Trying to get better sound what would you recommend?

Unless your system has some background noise a head unit with a higher pre out voltage might not help. A higher pre out voltage alone will not improve sound from my experience.

However, you didn't mention exactly which head unit you actually have........a higher overall quality unit tuned properly will improve sound quality. Personally the only impressive sound quality oriented head unit I see on the market is a Pioneer DEX-P99RS.

The best way to improve sound quality in the Z is with a proper front stage. A lot of factors come in to play with this..........sound deadening, speaker position/direction, crossover frequencies, and a whole lot more..........

What part of the sound is not satisfactory to you in your set up? Maybe we can give you some suggestions based on your answer to this question.

)Been doing high end car and home audio for 20 years. )

right off the bat hes mix n matching front stage, Alpine speakers are decent especially for the cash, but hes either got coax in the door and tweets in the dash or a mix n matched component system..

thats one issue right ther.. using the crossovers intended for other tweters is nevenr a great idea.. theres more than frequency cut off happening threr. there a zobel networ to impedance match the set and theres also phase engineering parts as well.

You got too much going on in different phases and locations for a tiny 2 seat sports car.

Point source is where its at, and it sounds like youre far from it.

If it were me, id move the SPR to teh rear ( wait, i HAVE spr in the rear.. ) and run a set of good high quality componenets in the front location, even the stock spots.

A set Of Focals, or Boston Pro 60 SEs.. maybe a wicked CAS door pod? ( I run the pod w Bostons myself.. very good sound).

Also, the 4v deck is always a good thing to have.. and in theory yes its made so that the signal going down your rca is stronger and will reject noise more, and will also allow similar voume from the amp and a lesser gain, ie less noise.

But the deck w the 4v pre outs is probably a better deck to begin with, and this is very important.
I will run Alpine til the day i die as Im fully aware of why they cost more than others.
Regardless, proepr cross overs, gain settings, and proper flattening of your sound curve will help.

Anyone who EQs for a living will tell you that boosting is a bad idea.. you start flat and you take peaks out to acheaive good sound.

Buy a good deck, the best you can.

Buy a different front speaker set up.

The subs will pick up easily wher the good fronts leave off, and good frionts will make the entire system sound much much louder.

I lsiten to the same music as u mentioned too.. but my system plays everything flat and normal and perfect.. very linear.. i dont adjust anything, not even woofer level when going from vocals in opera stuff to VOlbeat to Skrillex to Yo Yo ma playing cello.. and thats the cool part.. ... let what the album is intended to sound like be created in the car naturally....play your music, tune your car, cuz tuning music sucks.

I agree with bmccann101.

You have a good start right now, but you can improve this significantly by swapping out the fronts with good components and adding a high quality H/U. As bmccann10 mentions, mixing componernts from different manufacturers can be tricky.

Let us know what you decide to do.
