Default Kick Panels & Door Pods

I am about to take delivery on an '08 350z roadster and I'm already planning out the stereo upgrades. I plan to use the Nazar glove box for the sub and his door pods for either the mids or for a good coaxial. I was also considering putting the tweets in the kicks like the attached picture. Where can I get these? Who is "bing" and does he sell these? Thanks

ive got to be honest.. i use alpine imprint software to time ocrrect, but still.. i run Boostons in the factory tweeter spot and in Nazara dor pods and th sound is fantastic.. our cars dash is simply to tight over overything to really have the kick panel location work well.

The only reason to have them there is to appear point source and to equal path lengths.. if you get a great set of speakers, the tweeters will surely play lower and greatly reduce this..

ive gotta tell ya, im very knowledgeable and picky, w 20 years plus in car audio.. just buy his pods and use the stock location.. youll thank me later.

^^ np thats really what we all try to do for folks.. save you money by doing it right.

....even when sometimes that means reccomending you pay more now.. youll save more later.

Some ppl call it being a brand *****.. but the vets call it prudent purchasing.

I would go with door pods and cut the tweeters into the A-Pillar.

Tweeters inside kick panels sound great due to the distance and alignment. But, losing some of your kick space negates the minimal sound advantage.

I will be getting the car Monday.

I was considering using Image Dynamics speakers and a ID10 sub but the Focal Access 165 A1 component set has really got my attention now as does the JL Audio 10w3v3. I'm not sure which amp to go with yet or head unit. Would love to have a single amp for the sub and comp set. Definitely going with the double DIN screen. RAAMmat where needed.

Good info. I'm going this route myself in order to keep my install as stealthly / hidden as possible. I figured Imprint would semi-make up for the less then ideal install location.

I think most people over think the whole stereo thing. I too have been installing as a hobby for 25 years and the differences between various speakers (both in brands and locations) is not as wide as some people make it out to be. The gap between the stock junk and decent aftermarket equipment (w/200 to 600 watts) is HUGE, then the 2nd step to go from "decent" to competition level (700 watts+) the sound becomes mind blowing awesome, but it requires a major investment and slick custom fabrication skills.

Thus I'd say 80% would be happy after step 1 and don't need step 2. Of course there will always be a few that go overboard (step 3) by putting in a wall of 15" subs, full fiberglass door panels holding three 6"s and two tweets plus a center channel and two video touchscreens along with 3,000+ watts... but if that makes you happy then go for it!

JBL MS-8 > Alpine Imprint... Just saying...

In regards to the car pictured above... that is Adam's car. He's running Focal components with very bright tweeters which sound better IMO further away from the ear then in the stock tweeter location.

3.sixty.3 > MS-8 > Imprint (going on specs alone here)

The only problem is even after CES I don't see any real updates from Rockford on the status of the 3.sixty.3 major bummer.

My gripe with the MS-8: way too expensive and only 2V output. Also requires a separate display unit to make any adjustments, I'd prefer an iPhone app like RF is planning.

My gripe with Imprint: control via an Alpine deck only and very limiting, basically auto tune then there is nothing you can tweak. Most reports indicate the auto tune boosts the highs too much and cuts out all the bass. You can overcome the bass with a gain tweak on your amp and I plan to cut the treble with -6dB crossovers on my tweeters.

My plan is go with Imprint for now and switch over to RF solution, when (IF!) it ever sees the light of day. Rumor is the RF unit will be priced between Imprint and the MS-8 at around $300

well you can fit both tweeters and mid tone into the dash/a-pillar.

This is my currenct Emma SQ 350z project.. managed to fit Pioneer ODR Tweeter and Pioneer ODR Midtone..

As usual... Great advice... I am in full agreement, and certainly on the tweeter position and the advantage of maintaining a distance that allows "directional listening." --Spike

I am seriously considering a Focal comp set. Are you saying the kicks would still be a better solution for those particular tweets than the a-pillars? I realize it is just an opinion. The best sounding system I have ever had was using MB Quart speakers which have a very bright tweeter also and I put the tweets in the kickpanels like the picture in my original post. Soundstage was incredible.

Do you know who made the kicks in the picture?

Are there any more pictures of this install? What is Adam's name on the forum?
