Default Inverting a JL W7 sub?

Just wondering if it was possible due to the fact you have to remove the surround to install one of these subs. The only way I could think of doing it is mount the sub on the baffle part of your enclousure before attaching it to the rest of the box, which would mean you would have to take apart your box to get the sub out. The reason I ask is because I want to make a custom enclosure in the spare tire area, using a JL 8W7. The box wouldn't be deep enough for the sub, so I could invert it. Anyone have any advise on this idea?

Yeah, you could do it with a removable baffle, but it would take a bit of planning and good finish work to make it look good--the screws could be poking out and the cutout for the sub will be showing. You'd have to figure out some way to make the baffle removable (in case the driver blows or something happens to it) and still airtight.

I'd think it would be much simpler to just build something on the driver's side of the trunk, where the big block of foam is. You wouldn't lose so much trunk space and could probably avoid inverting the sub.

Just use your tire well as an enclosure. Here's a pic of mine. (2) RF 12's in a fiberglass encloseure.

keeping the spare tire is essential to me. I'm not about to get stuck in the middle of nowhere waiting for AAA to show up. It's not worth it to me... thats just my opinion.

i used the big foam block area to make my box ... for a 10" sub .. about 7" deep .... it will protrude into the cabin a bit ... but in my test fit it did look pretty good.

I don't think I am going to keep it though, since I have now seen the "stealth" install by zand02max .... i am probly going to do that instead.

the single 10"er didnt get low enough for me

JimRHIT-

Do you have pics of that box install? Maybe a schematic or something like that. I dont have my car here today to tear apart and look at. I would be interested in finding out any info I can about using that foam area to house a 10.

Thanks

That looks awesome... how far does it protrude into the car? If you are going to get rid of it... I would love to buy it from you.

I will measure it when I get it put back in there.

I'd probably want to sell the box with the driver, as the box is made specifically for the driver. We can talk

When I get it back in the car, I will send you some pix of it to better illustrate the protrusion
