Hi all,

I didn't see an already-existing thread about this - so here goes nothing! I have a 2003 350Z Touring with the Bose sound system (entirely stock).

I saw a thread here that basically claimed that the stock system was all smoke and mirrors. The speakers are tiny, and flat I guess. I'm getting a new double din head unit, and got that covered. But I want to replace all the speakers, tweeters, and subwoofer. And amps too I guess.

I've never messed with speakers or amps before and my MAIN question is... What size are the stock speakers? I searched for a few hours and honstly couldn't find a clear answer. For example, I don't want to buy a 6 inch speaker to fit in a 5 inch hole. (Same with the subwoofer).

I'll also take any tips for noobs who want to install/wire this all up themselves. (me) Thanks!

 

First things 1st, check out the following websites:

Those 2 sites will have more than enough info to get your new stuff installed. Next thing is to figure out what size speakers you need. I usually just trust www.crutchfield.com and/or go to Google and search "[insert vehicle] [insert location] speaker size". So, I Googled "350z bose front speaker size" and came up with a few links. What's your budget like? I've done 2 systems on a budget, buying and installing everything as I could afford it. If you want to go this route, then here's some tips to help you avoid pulling stuff apart more than once:

When installing the head unit, go ahead and run the remote turn on wire for the amp and a set of RCAs down to the side of the center console and wrap them up and zip tie them. The goal is to have the wires easily accessible yet still hidden, so when you can afford your amp and sub you won't have to pull the dash apart again. Also, if you plan on running your speakers off an amp, go ahead and run RCAs for that, too.

I've also done the "drop $5k at once" route, and the "buy it a piece at a time, and install it all at once" route. I actually prefer the "buy it and install it as I can afford it" route, for several reasons.

 

OP, the speakers are 6.5 all around. , ie front and rear.

 

The rear spears are 6.5” coaxial (tweeter is inside the speaker housing), and the housing is very deep so you can use just about anything.

The door speakers are 6.5” component (the tweeter and even a midrange can be mounted separately and away from the main speaker). You have limits if you use the stock door mount. Maximum depth from wall is about 2.5”, so check the speakers specifications.
