Upgrading stereo - is amps enough?
My 08 does not have the sub amp issue and it sounds ok. Not as good as my Eclipse in the truck and i'm wondering if the speakers are just under powered. I have a bunch of new JL amps i've never used and an Xtant in the closet, so it wouldn't cost much. Has anybody done this?
I guess the hard top has the same cubby bins since it was moved. So I was debating adding an amp but keeping the bose speakers or replacing F/R with 3-way Focal's with either a Focal or Infinity sub ...than that gives me a choice of dynamat or insert box for sub.
The Bose sounds good (not excellent) with CD's or MP3's but stereo reception and clarity is horrible. Kenwood would be my first choice but I think Pioneer may have the best radio reception.

Lol, your posts still only make half a sense, but I'll try.
1. NO just amps is NOT enough. Do not amp your bose speakers, you will kill them.
2. You're going to put 3 ways in your doors? Focal doesnt make Coaxial 3 ways, so they must be components, and it doesn't sound like youve got enough experience in car audio to install them. Get 2 way components for the fronts.
3. Bad reception could just be a loose wire, but if you're doing any kind of audio upgrade the first thing that should change is the head unit. As long as youre looking at decent brands it doesn't matter which one you get, you buy it for the features like aux in, EQ settings, Ipod/andriod compatibility, etc.
4. Do not just Dynamat the entire stock sub area. People do it, and any sub you put in there is just gunna sound like a flea market sub no matter how much you spent on it. Buy/build an enclosure.

If you have the money and the time, consider dumping the entire Bose system.

1. You can disonnect the Bose amps. I'd have to find the specs for them to figure out how to wire them. Most likely they are 8ohm and very low powered.
2. Coaxial 3 way? That makes no sense. 3 Ways are not coaxial and Focal does make 3 way components. Mids would be rear fill.
3. There's no loose wires. I have 6k miles on my roadster. Different stereos have different reception. Pioneer is the strongest.
4. There's a replacement box for $100 but since it's down firing it requires dynamat (or other brand) on the bottom. Foam works well also. I got a sheet used for packing material and placed it under my box in my truck and no floor rattle.

I'm trying to understand your reply as well...

2. Oh look, coaxial 3 ways.
Yes focal makes 3 way components, but they all need to be installed in the same general area (the door) for your sound to work properly. Installing the mids behind you separate from your tweeters and midbass would probably take running active since I'm assuming its a 3 way passive crossover or your sound would be split to hell.
3. Stereos reception is based on antenna length almost exclusively (not counting the area you're in or if you have faulty equipment, ie loose wires or bad head unit.)
4. You're on the right track with the sub at least. What people have tried before is dynamatting the entire cavity and putting a new sub in the metal plate that the bose sub is attached to, without building an enclosure which is what I thought you were referring to.
