Sound System Components
Well, like many of you guys, I've grown tired of the Blose sound system that came with my 03 Touring. The head unit skips like crazy when the car is in motion and the sub puts out pretty much nothing.
I want to upgrade everything, but my knowledge of car audio is pretty limited. I was hoping you guys could help me answer a couple questions...
I know that I want to go with the Focal 165A component speakers in the front, and I'm going to just tear out the rear speakers and not replace them. I don't feel like the rear fill is beneficial in the Z.
I also want to buy:
- A good head unit (either double din with bluetooth that actually works or a DVD model, preferably with bluetooth)
- 10" sub
- Amplifier
My questions:
1) When buying a head unit, what do I need to look for to get the most out of the system? 3 sets of 4V preamps? Peak RMS? Or can I ignore both of those if I buy a decent sound processor? Any suggestions for sound processors?
2) When buying an amp, how many channels do I need? 3? When connecting the system, does the connection go Head Unit > Sound Processor > Amp > Crossover > Speakers? Do I need to upgrade the crossovers that come with the Focal 165A?
3) Which components do I need to look at the resistance for? All of them? Just amp and subs?
I love listening to music and I want to get a really good set-up in the Z. Any help would be appreciated. I love the opportunity to learn something new.
EDIT: Have any of you guys opted for installing a tablet in lieu of a head unit? How did you get the sound playing from the tablet connected to the other components in the system?

Well, I ended up going with the JVC KD-AVX77 head unit (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...-KD-AVX77.html)
Still hoping for some feedback on the other questions.
Can you buy a 3 channel amp to power just front speakers and subs? Or do I need to buy two separate amps, one for front components, one for sub? I plan on buying the Focal 165A component 6.5" and building my own kicks (or maybe door pods) from fiberglass.
I'm still confused about resistance and crossovers.
