my friend has the v-1 and he loves it he swears its the best, im trying to find more info on the sr-7 but is hard because its so expensive and its not so common...
The arrows, you cant live without the arrows after you have had them for just a couple drives. I rode in my cousins who had a V1 and the arrows and it made it so much easier to figure out if it was a real threat of just a automatic door at a grocery store. Then i rode in my friends car, and his went Beep Beep. Its more expensive, but upgradable and well built.
i got the v1 and trust me...it saved me plenty of times...and it has a really good range....two of my other friends got the v1 so when we go out to race with our walkie talkies..once we hear that certain beep...we go seperate...the v1 is the best radar i ever bought.
yeh yeh the valentine is GREAT! i know but i what i really want to know is if anyone has any experience with the Sr-7? i mean escort is a good company (w/ GREAT customer service too hahaha) and i just cant decided which one...

I did a ton of research on radar detectors before I made my purchase so I may be able to help. First, you are trying to compare a remote radar unit (SR-7) and a dash mounted unit (V1). Initially I wanted the Escort SR-1 remote as I didn't want the "hassle" of a dash mounted radar detector and I thought it would be better at picking up radar due to the sensor being located in the front of the car. I also thought tha such a high price would equate to a superior detector. WRONG! From every test I read, dash mounted radar units are much better at picking up radar than remotes...
I didn't believe all the tests and figured that they were just being paid off by Valentine. I also found out that Escort's SR-1 was no longer available so I went with the BEL 975 whose performance was actually pretty much on par with the Escort and half the price. In addition it is upgradeable. I had it installed and I love it. No hassles, no one will steal it, etc. And I still didn't believe what all the test had said about remotes because it did a good job.
Fast forward 9 months. I needed a new car for the winter and ended up buying an Audi A4 in Texas. I flew from Boston down to Texas and after picking up the car decided I needed a "cheap" radar detector just for the drive home. Fortunately Texas is loaded with pawn shops and the first one I went into, I hit paydirt - I bought a Valentine V1 (version 1.7) for $69! Finally I could prove to Bonz and all the other Valentine groupies that the V1 is really just on par with a remote detector. WRONG! To make a long story a little bit shorter, the thing is incredible. It easily picks up radar two to three times the distance of my remote. You have no idea how much it pains me to say this.
OK, so now you will more than likely come back and say something about the BEL being a much more inferior unit. Throw this Radar Test in my face showing the SR-7s superiority to the BEL (as well as all the others) and I would agree. But I guarantee that it won't beat the Valentine V1. And the arrows that everyone has been brainwashed by Valentine to say are so cool...they are right. They do make a big difference in letting you know what's going on.
The bottom line: If you want convenience and a really good radar detector get the Escort SR-7. You're probably going to be safe and feel confident that you have the best remote radar out there. If you want the ultimate protection, get the Valentine V1. It really is that good. And finally, if you're like me, use both. I will trust my remote for everyday driving, and on trips to "uncharted" waters, pop the V1 on the dash.
