Default 06 350Z Roadster with Bose and Navi Upgrade Questions

First post... I've been looking through the forums and I've found a lot of posts that are similar to the questions I have, but not exact for my needs... so here it goes:

I've got an 06 roadster with Bose and Navigation. I want to replace the head unit because I want SiriusXM and AUX/BT support. This is my 7th Z (my first 350) and I'm doing all the work myself.

1) If I replace the head unit I understand there's a special adapter I can get to keep the Bose speakers. Does anyone have a link for the 06+ Bose? The ones I've seen in other threads are for earlier models.

2) If I replace the head unit, will my Navigation still work?

3) I'm tempted to replace the Navi unit with a tablet or I might build something custom with a Raspberry Pi. I've noticed a lot of pictures with the Navi area having a closeable door... mine isn't like that at all. Does anyone make a kit for doing this type of mod, or anyone try to make one with a 3D printer?

Picture attached for clarity.

1) http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAC-ROEM-NIS...-/360331905501

2) Yes, your navigation will still work but you will lose the voice through your speakers. I believe the only way around that is to install a speaker specifically for the navi voice.

Oh nice... will that also allow for the steering wheel controls to work or do I need something else for that?

If you swap out your OEM Bose H/U:
1. You lose the voice commands from the OEM Clarion navigation unit. I’m not sure how you can correct this. I assume that the navigation module has audio out, but I’m not sure. Maybe someone else can confirm this.

2. In addition to the PAC ROEM-NIS2 Nissan/Bose Radio Replacement Interface 1 that AdvanZ33 mentions in his reply, you also need the Pac Audio Swi-Rc AVH-X1500DVD Steering Wheel Control Interface Adapter Module to retain operation of the H/U controls in your car’s steering wheel.

If you replace the OEM navigation:
1. The operation-panel no longer functions (you now have a bunch of dead buttons).

2. Fitment is very possible, but it can be challenging. Search this sub-forum for DIY threads for your 2006 model.

Additional Note: Bose uses a proprietary system that makes blending with other systems very challenging. Installers often recommend a complete replacement, especially in the 350z which has very low quality Bose components.

Spike100, thanks for the info that's exactly what I needed to know

yogipower, I may be willing to part with the factory navi but from what I understand you won't be able to use it (it also requires the DVD drive that's mounted behind the drivers seat). Can you send me a picture of your center console so I'd know what I'm getting?

Why would you want to keep Bose speakers?
