adequate? Depends on your definition of adequate. No alarm is going to stop a thief from stealin your car if they really want it.
I currently have an Alpine and have only run into a problem once (required resetting the brain).

I don't think the stock alarm is adequate. Settled on the Alpine150-R also. It has all the basic features of most cars and i like the dual stage shock and radar sensors. I didn't want paging or other things, i like smaller remotes. This remote wasn't that small, but it's been reliable. The radar sensor is usually too sensitive for most cars and falses alot (according to the dealer), but for some reason it worked good in my car. I don't think it's as good as my VSE Raptor on my old car, but so far it's been reliable and has enough outputs. I have one button to open my trunk, one button opens my gas filler, and i have it roll up my windows and i have an annoying 1 per second flasher for the horn so it's super annoying.
others to consider, DEI which makes Viper products, clifford products and some others i think. Lots of choices nowadays with pagers and gps tracking too.
