Default Stock Bose HU not functioning correctly

Hey all,
Just got my 03 Touring and I love it. Its been too cold out for me to actually give it a nice deep clean and take a look at everything inside. BUT I did notice that my stock HU is not functioning properly.

I load CD's fine but it keeps telling me to check disc, and the tape deck does not work. I tried to hook up tape adapter so I can play music through my phone but it ejects the tape.

I've gotten the CD player to play ONCE since I've had the car for maybe 2 weeks.

Radio works, but at times I can hear/feel the bass working and then int stops. Is there a "reset" for this? Can I unplug some wires and replug them or check whats behind the bezel? Is this a common problem? or just an electrical problem?

Thanks

The Blose system was trash when it was new, and now at 13 years old, it's surely not worth much effort to troubleshoot/repair. Sounds like you've got the common failures of both the head unit and the subwoofer amp. Time for something new.

The sub amp "fix" is to wad up a piece of paper and smash it inside the amp case on top of a relay. (probably a cracked solder joint)

As for the H/U, try hitting the side of the center console beside the radio. Mine was giving me issues back when I had it (it didn't even last a year) and I got pissed off and hit my knee on the side of the dash while I was driving and it started working.

But the best solution is to strip all the Bose out and run all new stuff.

Sad but oh so true.

I think (guess ) half the problems are related to the automatic road noise / volume adjustment microphone feedback system Nissan used. It drove me nuts when I first got my Z, the volume and bass were all over the place.

I have that same problem. Mine is an 03 Touring as well and the Bose system isn't so good. What I do is just hit the damn thing a couple of times and it starts again in two to three hits. I have had it for two years so I am already used to this. It would be nice to upgrade it though that way you don't have to reach your arm to the back of your seat and try to hit while driving. But as for the CD and cassette player, it works fine I would say upgrade to a better system.

even when functioning correctly , there is really no dynamic sound there

no highs , no lows , bose blows

the only part of your question that is strange is , what exactly is a Tape Deck LOL

if you are wanting to attempt to do something , you can try a CD cleaner disc to actually attempt to remove any dirt that may be keeping it from not reading the disk , OH , are you using a store bought CD or one you made yourself ?

A CD cleaner might work. It didn't work for me when I was having this issue but it could work for you. My CD player skips and pauses music and sometimes doesn't read the disc. The CD player is weird.

Time to get rid of your Bose Clarion POS in favor of something decent. Just a good HU will help, but the stock speakers and amps also suck.
