Default Stock antenna

I just purchased a small aluminum antenna from Courtesy. Looks great but I think that because of where I live, the reception is less than perfect. Since I have spent a bundle on this car in the past two weeks, I was wondering if I could shorten the stock antenna. This would be just a temporary measure, until I can scrounge up a some money to try something else. Anyone know if this can be done, or should I just wait. Any opinions welcome,

Thanks, Bob

try to get a s2000 or lexus IS antenna. they fit well, are shorter and retain reception. check ebay for one, there is usually one listed and cheap.

Did you upgrade the stereo recently? If the power antenna lead in the factory harness plug isn't connected, the stock antenna amplifier will not work and will cause reception to be pretty horrible.

I shortened the stock antenna. Remove the cap on top, cut fiberglass mast, apply adhesive to inside of cap and replace. Unless you live in the city, reception will be compromised a bit.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I think that I'm going to go with the Honda antenna. Luckily I have a dealer close by if I can't get one from ebay.

Try the shorter but extendable metal one from courtesy. I've got this one on the way and I've read it may have better reception then the REALLY short one they sell.

Well I tried something today. I usually don't like to ruin one thing to make another, but I took the stock antenna and cut it down to 8", put a black rubber boot on top where I cut it and installed it. The sound and reception seems to be back to normal, and the size is much nicer to look at. Too bad I spent the money for the small one I ordered from Courtsey, but it was only 10.00. Thanks for the reply, Bob

Ahh that must be why I'm getting terrible radio reception after getting my Alpine DVD deck installed. Was wondering what the problem could be. Thanks for the tip!
