Default Running Power to Amp

For those of you running big amps, did you source power direct from the battery, and if so how did you run the wire?

Don't drill holes!

There is a big *** grommet in the corner of the battery area under the plastic panels. I just cut a slit in it and ran the wire through it. It drops down in the passenger kick and you can hide the wire behind the kick panel and under the carpet.

I have a run of 1/0 ran to my back battery and I'm grounded to the baby seat attaching bracket doodad.

And here is the view from under the dash. You can see the red 4AWG coming down out of the dash. If you lay in the floor and look up you can see a straight shot to that grommet.

OP, how big of an amp are you talking about anyway?

I don't remember having trouble running my 1/0. But I am just curious as to what he has pulling that much current.

I'm just running a 1000w and a 100x4 so a single run of 1/0 is probably overkill but I did it anyways.

I actually started my car off the rear battery for a week or so when the ground cable came off my front battery.

It's good to have more than enough, than too little. Ball park I'm pushing about 1800watts with both amps combined. I actually needed to incorporate a 1 farad capacitor, new battery, and do the "Big 3" grounding upgrade in order for the amps to have enough juice to not drain from the rest of the car. Before the extras, my headlights and dash lights were dimming...

Good job.

Now how about that pic? It's not that I doubt you. It's that I want to see it. I can't imagine how tough it was to stuff all 4 in there...

Thanks for the advice and the pics, outstanding. I'm running 6 awg wire to a 1000W amp and glad to hear I don't have to drill a hole in the firewall.
