Good on removing that rear panel to make access easier, especially if your installer has experience working on a 350Z.

However, I would recommend you consider either leaving the stock speakers and disconnecting them, or just removing them for weight savings, and NOT placing new speakers there.

The location of the stock behind the head speakers is a detriment to clear audiophile sound reproduction, being too close to the head, and a huge disparity in difference between how far left and right channels are from the listener. Having speakers there only serves to muddy the sound from your primary speakers (door 6.5 components), especially if you have high quality fronts.

You would be much better served with saving your money on those rear speaks, and going with a higher end component set of 6.5's for the front.

I like my Rainbows up front. Sound great and they can still make your ears ring if you listen to it full tilt.

 

Since I already have them I will have him install them but I will prob keep the sound all the way to the front or close. I went coaxial for simplicity but I went with kickers nicer ks series ones.

 

What kind of speakers are you putting in the front?

I would advise you to reconsider wasting resources on those rear speakers, and if you haven't already, get a nice set of component speakers for the door......

 

I've already purchased 2 pairs of kicker KS Coaxals (I only paid $48 a pair)


What is the big difference between Coaxals and components anyway?

The install is done! Brandon, our auto tech installer and Xavier the trainee did a phenomenal job at it and it sounds phenomenal! The box fit PERFECTLY. I left the padded mat in it to keep the not padded sub box from rattling (I didn't end up putting dampening material on it) and brandon custom made some brackets to strap it to the top. I'll hopefully post some photos tomorrow evening (Just got off of work tonight and work all day tomorrow). The entire build ended up costing right at about $730 with my employee discount/accommodations. The hardware cost $550 (Normally just over $1150) and the install cost me $180 (Normally just under $600). I think I waaaaaay more than my money's worth in this and am extremely happy with it.

I did go ahead and install the rear speakers but I have the balance turned significantly towards the front as it does sound better than 50/50.

The specific head unit (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X720...FH-X720BT.html) has a specific color already set as one of the defaults that perfectly matches the orange in the rest of the car.

The alpine power pack seems to keep up pretty well and sounds ok.

The panel covering the subwoofer is giving me some rattling so I'm prob going to be getting some sound dampening material for it.

I am going to use two of the unused 6.5" speaker grills for the cover over the sub, I'm going to cut some 6.5 inch holes and put them over them. just to let some air in.

One question I do have is how worried do I have to be about blowing this sub out. It's a 600w RMS 1200w peak, my amp is only 400w RMS idk peak. Just while I was changing some EQ settings tonight I found a "super bass" preset that sounded amazing but I'm wondering what the chances of blowing my sub are if I'm pumping that much bass through a single 10".
