Exclamation Need Help: questions on installing a cig lighter - have searched

Installing a tablet. Understand I need to tap a cig lighter into the IGN wire...

Do I need to tap into the IGN wire before the double din or does it matter?

Can I tie the ground wire from the cig lighter into the ground wire on my stereo harness?

I can help with one aspect. Avoid tapping into factory ground wire. Use your own clean ground.

I wish I could explain with technical data but I can't. Lol. Before I embarked on my audio project I did extensive research because that was my first time. And that was one of the things I learned from multiple sources. So far I have not had any issues by following that advice.

The factory ground works fine for me?

I've had 5 different head units in my Z and I've used the factory ground for each of them with no problems.

I would tap in to the harness for the head unit. That way all the wires stay there in the center stack and it's easier for you.

You can ground the tablet either way (create a new ground or connect to the common ground). As 92K1500 suggests, the simple way to install the tablet is connecting directly to the harness for the ground and ignition switched power.

With that said, breeze makes a good point. Sometimes a ground (even done correctly) can cause a ground loop. Ground loops cause noise, hum, and interference in A/V systems.

BTW: You are wise installing the power outlet. That allows you to keep the tablet’s power adapter in place protecting your investment.
