Default Better alternative speakers to replace '03 Bose ones.

My curiosity got the better of me today and I decided to come on here and get an idea of what speakers everyone has gotten to replace the stock bose speakers. I'm not looking for "the best" speakers but more of (if relevant) a certain kind of speaker that works or sounds the best in our Z's.

And if someone also wants to chime in on a decent sub to replace the Bose sub that would also be helpful. Does one need to get a new amp if changing out the Bose sub with another or can I use the same amp?

Bose speakers are some weird impedance, no aftermarket speakers will just plug and play. You have to replace the amp and/or headunit along with speakers. Fortunately in our cars this is very easy, as the headunit is not integrated into HVAC or NAV controls as on many newer cars.

Lots of ideas on what to do in the build thread.

Good luck.

What NismoDude said: Bose are at 2ohm, while typical replacements are 4ohm.

Also, before someone chimes in about PAC-ROEM - there are multiple threads with some saying sound quality remains the same, while others experienced decreased sound qualtiy.

Thanks all for the replies. Very helpful. I actually have an aftermarket head unit that already installed so that takes care of head unit part.

I really want to do this too; how weired can the ohms be? They sell 2, 3, 4, 8 ohm speakers are the bose none of these....or are the ones that are not 4ohm just no better than the bose? I want to be stealth and don't want anymore volume, but my bose system sounds like a set of earbuds playing inside a soup can

The majority of replacements are 4ohm. If you can find decent speakers that match the impedance of the Bose system (I can't remember if it's 1.5ohm or 2ohm) then you should be able to swap.

I like Infinity's Reference series, also run them in my truck.

I've got their component mids/tweets in the doors and an 8" sub in small sealed enclosure. All speakers fit neatly behind the factory grills for a nice stealth install. Alpine head unit & Imprint processor, plus a Kicker 500 watt 4 channel amp to drive everything. Not going to blow the window outs - but sounds really good, nice and clean and gets plenty loud enough for me.

Hey Dood ... If your car has an aftermarket H/U, it is simple swapping out the OEM Bose amps and speakers. Because you already have an aftermarket H/U installed, you probably have some sort of adapter in place now that supports connection to the 2 ohm Bose amps.

To replace the existing Bose speakers when using your aftermarket non-Bose H/U:
1. Remove the adapter (the aftermarket piece added when you installed the non-Bose H/U).
2. Install new 4 ohm speakers.
3. Wire your new 4 ohm speakers directly to the non-Bose H/U, or to a new aftermarket external amplifier.

Done!

I just changed all mine with rockford fosgate prime speakers they were relatively inexpensive and sound pretty good to me. I ran new speaker wire to the back 6 3/4 speakers because I was running amp wires anyways but spliced the rear amps wires to the front speakers. Found this link very helpful.http:// http://crutchfield.custhelp....UW44V24tdms%3D Also put in amp in the factory sub location and have an 8 inch sub in the hatch. Its more then enouph for me. The front speakers were kinda tricky because the wierd shaped door panals and the limited mounting depth. I used 4 inchers mounted on some mdf that I mounted on the plastic front speaker brackets. Everything from the factory bose stereo was removed.
