I want to have the ability to plug in my phone or other device w/o having a long *** cord going all the way to the rear outlet.

Just get a 04+ passenger side panel, it will have a lighter in it then just wire it up to the fuse box.

Adding a power plug should be simple. Drill a round hole where you want the power, and install a hot-plug. Off-roaders put these in all sorts of places in their vehicles. --Spike

In my other car I have a 3A cellphone charger hooked right up the the power seat fuse(and grounded to a bolt behind the dash) and it comes out of the left side of the dash up the pillar. Took me all of $4 and about 10 minutes to install.

i did swap the 04.5 lower dash panel in. Its a direct fit. just wire it up to the other outlet and you're good to go.
