Touch screen vs traditional deck
Hello, so I recently just got a 2004 350z and this car is bone stock. My envision is to bring this car into the 2020. I've done other mods but now is time to update the original cassette tape deck. I see a lot of people running various setup starting from changing to double din, adding a second screen where the cubby hole is and the brainiac tablet touchscreen.
Can someone give me your experience with the touchscreen vs a double din?
thanks,

For that reason, I vote double din deck with Apple or Google play and hands free at the most.
I have 2 screens, they don't get touched while driving, it's about discipline. That being said I actually don't like dual screens but I also hate random gauges around the car, so second screen was the lesser of the evils for me. If all you want is music, get a nice double din, there are some nice ones that look OEM or some that are a flat panel screen with no buttons.
I am in the same boat. So many options and brands out there that i don't know which route to go.
At the moment i am considering in this order Kenwood, Sony and JVC. I am old school and was very tempted for Alpine but have read that they don't have the quality as before.
Any suggestion will also be appreciated.

It depends on your budget and what features you're looking for. Do you want gps?
I've had some good luck with some pioneer and kenwood models with my last few installs. Crutchfield is a good website where you can search and filter results based on your needs.

Thanks…. I was also looking there on Crutchfield. Really no GPS necessary but will like Bluetooth, USB for music, Rear backup camera as main features.
Most recent install was a Kenwood DNX696S in my Frontier. There's probably a newer version of that model out now since that was over a year ago, but zero complaints.
I wanted a head unit that would incorporate OBD2 diagnostics in real time, but I don't think there was anything available at that time. I have a kindle fire that I use as a separate screen to pair up with my BT OBD2 reader.

I've had my Kenwood for almost 4 years with no issues, definitely recommend. For rear view look at Amazon they have a camera that incorporates into one of the license plate lights, looks super clean and OEM.

Count me as another Kenwood fan, as I installed a DPX593BT DD in my '03 preorder Z almost 16 months ago. It's been reliable, affordable, easy to use and I like having a CD for high fidelity with my system. It features BT, can read most media and has a bright enough screen that it's easily seen in bright sunlight. That was a big concern with a touchscreen unit, as every one I've seen gets washed out by our Colorado sunshine. This Kenwood also has a large control button to access most controls (including a decent equalizer) on the unit.
I installed a Pioneer unit about 3 years ago and have been very happy with it. No CD slot or built in NAV, but it is both Apple and Android compatible, so one can use the phone’’s map apps.

The tablet is just so sleek looking but never had anyone comment on the functionality of it. Don't want to be getting a cool looking tablet but end up more frustrated afterwards.
Anyone here tablet experience?
