Default Is replacing stock sub enough?

Have a touring with the bose. It needs more low end ( I listen to a lot of trance).

Can I just swap out the stock subwoofer behind the drivers seat with an aftermarket one to increase bass? Or is there more to the story.

Please help, I am an audio noob.

what I'm wanting to do is just replace the 10 with a aftermarket sub and not add a amp or anything. But is it true that an after market sub can not connect to the Bose factory amp, (diff ohm
on the speaker?)

You can try. I don't think it'll hurt, but just swapping out the sub is usually not recommended. You'll most likely be disappointed with the result. I have the bose sub amp infront of me right now and I doubt you can get any better sound out of it with a better sub. In addition to that, you'll need to make sure your sub is a "free air" sub (one that does not require an enclosure). I recommend getting an amp+sub or do nothing.

Are you on a tight budget?

I have to agree with oaktown350 on this one. Factory oem amps (whether they be Bose or anyone else) are just about always low quality and low power. You'd need an extremely efficient sub that is also designed for a free air installation. (Two things that often don't lead to quality output.)

Default Blose

In the case of the Blose sub I believe it is a low impedance driver. If you put a normal sub on that amp you will probably lose volume. (That's my guess, I am not 100% sure).

On a budget yes, what do you guys recommend as a good amp/sub combo.
Where is the amp for the sub anyway? Don't we have a few amps in the car?

As everyone else, I threw an Infinity Basslink in my car last night. Perfect fit, amp is built into the 10" sub unit. Sounds great, very tight, saved the stock Bose system enough so that I wont waste money redoing anything else on it. Granted getting it for $150 shipped new didnt hurt the deal.

Go for the Basslink.

So you only replaced the sub and nothing else?

The sub itself is a small little cube that has the 200w amp and 10" sub all in one. It perfectly fits in the area the stock Blose normally sits.

Here are a few pics on my cardomain page on the bottom. You can see how it fits better.

I bought it directly from Infinity under accomodations for 65% off retail. If you look on eBay you can buy one new for not much more than that. Its not that the install was difficult, just somewhat time consuming pulling every damn body panel off. I think i did break one clip off smacking the passenger side panel back on, but I'm over it; there are a lot of clips. I may have even gotten rid of a rattle or 2 by throwing electrical tape over a few of the clips.

Yeah, I actually think it would be easier, no lame factory amps to worry about. You should be able to tap the signal anywhere, like up by the head unit which can only give you better sound.

what wires do you connect to the basslink?
what do you change the settings on the basslink to?
do you change/ remove anything from the stock amp?
or is it like simply taking the wires that go to the factory sub and connecting them to some imput on the basslink?
thanx !!

Get a Basslink. Best bang for the buck.

depends on your budget and what you're looking for out of your system. if you just want a little more, the basslink will do. i've never heard one, but for that price it's hard to beat. you can always check out nazar's under-strut box.

if you're handy with tools/woodshop, you can build a sub-box. there's a thread here with specs and all to build a box behind the driver's seat for an infinity 10.1d.

I'd recommend going futher back away from the driver with woofer. Consider you already have 2 speakers facing your feet and 2 right behind your head.
