Anyone have any clean IPod mounts?
I have a Bose system, and I really don' have the money to put in an aftermarket headunit to play MP3s. I have a 20gig IPod that I bought back in the day that I would like to use with an FM Modulator to play back all my music, but I am not sure how I want to mount it without making it look cheesy.
Anyone using an IPod in thier 350? Where/how did you mount it and with what accessories?

bump.
I'm also interested in this...
I doubt this is possible, but I thought I would ask. Is there any way to send a line-in to the Bose system from the iPod?
I have no desire to use an FM transmitter (still makes me wonder why ppl would use these things? Your tunes are [normally] sampled at 44KHz on the iPod, and you want to downsample them to hear them on an FM band? ... even worse are those add-on CD changers that do this FM band hijacking...)

i used belkin ipod cup holder, ipod ipod auto charger and sony cassette adapter.
easy to use, perfect place to put on ipod.
sound isn't different from listening cds.
I keep meaning to put up pics of my install.
I went with a mount and clip from ProClip USA (www.proclipusa.com). The mount clips directly to the left of top DIN slot, putting the iPod in a good spot for while you're driving.
I have the benefit of an aftermarket HU, so the next step might not help as much, but I used a Belkin car adapter with the line-out on it, which I wired into a 12v switched source behind my HU (ignition wire I believe), then ran a monster cable splitter from the line-out to the line-in on the back of my HU.
Just a couple of things to note about the ProClip USA stuff. The quality of the parts is pretty good, but the design of the clipping part could use a bit of work. It's designed to clip into the existing seam to the left of the radio, and the othe seam farther back on the driver side of the center console. It clips in well, but there is no vertical support, so if you don't get good contact with the supplied tape strip, it'll slide down and fall off easily. I eventually went with some stronger wall-mounting tape from Home Depot, and I hit the area on the dash where the tape was going to contact with some goof off, which seems to have done the trick.

And another. You can see where it clips next to the HU and a little back along the driver side of the center console. You can also see where I got a little goof off on the cover plate from the Metra kit. Be careful here, the dash material is fine, but the plastic from the Metra kit disolves with Goof off.

I also went with the belkin ipod cup holder. It sits in a great position for operating the unit. I am currently using an iTrip FM modulator for getting the tunes on my stock headunit (non blose). It kind of stinks since I live near Boston. I'm waiting till I get an aftermarket headunit to come up with a better solution.
DLO TransPod FM All-In-One Car Solution
I went with this. I just ordered it but it got great reviews at www.ipodlounge.com. I like the fact that is will use any fm frequency. I have heard that is the biggest problem with the fm modulators. It also charges the ipod. I will post a picture once I get it mounted and running!

I saw this too but I didn't see how it could possibly mount under our dash. Since the cig lighter adapter is under the curved dash on the passenger side how would this fit???
BTW the iTrip lets you pick any station but its a pain with one stations starts to get bad as you drive.

There are a bunch of mounts for it. It has about 5 different way to mount it. I am going to take the lighter plug apart and hard wire it. Just have to look at where it is easiest to mount and use.
alpine is coming out with a HU that will let you plug in your ipod to the AI-net thing and it will display the track/artist info and you can use the alpine HU controls and just stick the ipod anywhere. should be out sometime summer.
I use the belkin cup holder thing too. It works pretty well. My only gripe is with the itrip. I really wish it worked better at high volume.
Ipod in the car is extremely convenient overall though. (I am too indecisive and constantly change cds otherwise.)
