Anybody have a new Alpine 9833?
Mine sitting on the floor with the rest of the speakers and sub. Waiting for the $$ for a premo install & amp. 2-4weeks out. can't wait. Anyone elce with the HU? Do you like it?
I'm seriously considering this HU, so if any of you above (or elsewhere) have the amp, I wouldn't mind some kind of a review.
1. How good does the color matching work?
2. Are you using an external amp as well? (I'm on the fence of whether or not I need one, if I'm just powering the fronts. I'll have a self powered sub, and don't plan on using the rear. Plan on Kappas or Perfects for the fron.)
Thanks for any info!!!!

I installed it about a month ago and I like it alot. The dark color and brushed metal **** go very well with the Z interior. The customizable button color can be made to match the Z guages perfectly too. As I posted in another thread, the only problem I have with it is the display washing out when it's sunny. I'm not sure if the CDA-9835 would have this problem or not.
I put on in my ZR with a set or SPX-177A components and a 60Wx2 Kenwood amp. Major improvement in sound qualty over stock. Using the time delay adjustments I have the vocals coming from the center of the dash. Color for the 4 big buttons is dead on, for the smaller ones its close enough for me.
my 9833 is sitting right behind me as i type this reply ... waiting for the infinity basslink to come in... next wed... then install the following weekend with a radio-guru friend of mine ...
kappas & kappa-components are also piled up in boxes behind me ...

I'm thinking about doing a similar set-up. I was curious if you were planning on adding an amp. A lot of the threads I've been reading have said that you should try to match/exceed the RMS of your system (amp or HU) to your speakers. 9833 comes with 23 RMS (I think...)
I plan on using Infinity Perfect 6.1s (which ask for 100W - per channel I think...) so I'm planning on using a fairly inexpensive 2 channel US Acoustics (USX2100) to drive them. I'm leaving the back speakers stock for filler and will use the HU's power for that.
What do you plan on doing? Thx...
If anyone has thoughts on the gauge wire required for the power to the sub/amp I would appreciate it. I have no plans on upgrading, so I'm thinking 4 awg going back to a distribution block splitting it into two 8 awg lines - 1 for the basslink the other for the amp.

i'm not putting in an amp right now, since i dont really need one cause the basslink doesnt need one, plus i'm using kappa's for the front and kappa's for the back... perfects probably would need an amp, but after 3 months of research, i've chosen this setup .... the basslink specs say anything more than a 12g wire will do, though i'm using a 10...
if for some reason i feel the system is underpowered, i'll add an amp... but no point in overkill rite ?
"but no point in overkill rite ?"
Good point. I'm thinking I probably got more than I needed...
Put my orders in yesterday:
Alpine 9831 (Ebay $260)
Basslink (SoundDomain $205)
Perfects (SoundDomain $220)
USX 2150 (SoundDomain $140) - You gotta love the 105% price guarantee - Saved over $200 using it.
I went with the 9831 since it has all the features (and more) that I needed, less RMS but with the Amp which provides 150 rms per channel, it's way more than I need.
Now the waiting game comes into play...

1. since its a complex head unit, with mp3, internal amp, slidedown face, if something gets messed up , easy warranty, but any place other than crutchfield or in-store retailers, its gonna be hard getting warranty work...
2. they give you the metra dash kit & the wiring harness free which comes to like 50 bucks with shipping, (their shipping is free... remember to take into account the ebay sellers have abnormal shipping rates)...
anyways, thats my personal opinion... i prefer peace of mind especially with 400$ head units... :P

Yeah, I'm definitely taking a gamble. But the ebay vendor has 11000 transactions with 99.3% feedback. They 'say' they offer warrantee service, hopefully since it's only 1 year it won't be an issue. Shipping was $20 insured, so I'm willing to risk it to save $120.

here's the math->
399 crutchfield (includes shipping+dashkit+harness)
saving of 120 - metra dashkit (30) - harness (20) - shipping = approx 60 bucks ... 60 more for piece of mind especially since having alpine do warranty work sounds more reliable than ebay xyz...

Maybe I brain farted, but I thought that since I'm running all new speaker wire to fronts, I wouldn't need a wire harness (outside of the one included in the box...)

But, yeah my 9833 from crutchfields was $400 but I got the free dash kit and wiring harness. Also free shipping.
This will be a nice project for next weekend.
Hey, I have a quick question for you. I also have the 9831 and once I installed it my radio gets no stations. The antenna is hooked up but I get no stations, just static. Did you use an adapter or something?
