The factory navigation system will be lost if radio is replaced.
That's the install note that Crutchfield.com lists. Anyone know If U can keep the stock navigation with an aftermarket DVD player?
The unit I plan on getting is the Alpine IVA-D900

They give that warning to every DVD player I looked at. Is it true?

you can make the voice work. do a search on posts by me... about a year ago... basically you have to amplify the line level voice voltage coming from the NAV unit. I installed an amplified center speaker in the sunglass holder. i then used a 6v relay to supply gound to the aftermarket stereo's telephone mute wire. this works by muting the main speakers when the voice comes on through the center speaker.

I know for a fact you won't lose the factory nav with an aftermarket head unit. I've seen it done on tons of Z's. But, you will lose the nav voice, which can simply be remedied by adding an additional speaker somewhere solely devoted to playing the nav voice. People I have seen usually mount a tweeter or some other small speaker somewhere in the dash.
