Have you seen the size of the roadster trunk? Where the hell am I going to put my golf clubs?

So will the sub sound better in the trunk of my roadster or does that only apply to the coupe? What does porting the sub to the main cabin mean exactly?

J/K I don't golf. Racquetball all the way, baby!!

If you are doing the install yourself then yea fiberglass wouldnt be the way to go as you have never done that before however any install shop could do a fiberglass box for you.

Yeah. I think that Car Toys wanted like $500 to do a fiberglass job. Maybe more.

Yea i like Tennis!!!! I guess you will have to decide what is more important music or golf!!! dont get me wrong anything you do to that car will be a major improvement to the worthless bose system its just that the way bas works it will sound better in the trunk than in the factory location.

Porting the sub into the main cabin is when the airspace in the trunk is sealed off from the airspace in the cabin so you have to cut a hole from the trunk into the cabin of the car so the bass soundwave can get from the trunk into the cabin and to your ear.

The farther bass travels in side the interior of any car the better it will sound always so yes it would apply to the roadster as well as the coupe.

I am going to run three 10's in my coupe in Nazars strut tower box with 2000 watts of pure class a power going to em facing towards the rear of the hatch ...when the bass soundwave bounces off the rear of the hatchback then travels back into the cabin this naturally amplifies the spl of the bass being produced. its just like if you guys have a home theater subwoofer at home when you put the sub in a corner they will sound louder than if you put the sub in the middle of the room away from any walls.

if youve got home theater at home try doing that you will see what i mean.

On a different note EVERYBODY here is a JL audio nut arent they!
In a few weeks when i drop the car off at the installer i think i will have the only 350z with All Audiobahn gear. My whole system will be Audiobahn except the cd player.

Ill be running 3 audio bahn 10's 2 sets of 6 1/2 by .75" componet sets a 4x140 4 channel amp and a 2000x1 mono amp, a 10 farad cap and an electronic crossover check it out.

That looks like a totally sweet setup. I was just pondering that getting a regular ported sub box for the trunk would be about a billion times easier than making a box, but not as much fun. I would have no idea how to port to the cabin exactly, but couldn't hurt to take a look.

Decisions, decisions.

I built a bandpass box once with two tens firing into a center chamber inside a sealed box so it had 3 chambers, a sub on each side and in the middle an empty chamber which the subs were firing into i then ran two ports from the center chamber up through the rear deck lid of a honda civic so if you can picture this the sound traveles through the ports up in to the cabin of the car..

This box sounded absoutly amazing and when deep bass hit realy loud you could feel the air from the ports when you were sitting the drivers seat

here is a drawing so you can see what im talking about

Do you guys know where I can find more information about portng the roadster trunk to the cabin? I just looked at my car and I see potential.

Try http://www.the12volt.com/

I dont know if you will find info specific to the 350z roadster but there will be plenty of info on this kind of box design!

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. Just so I understand correctly about this porting thing: I understand what you did with your setup in the Civic. Is that the same kind of porting that you would be talking about for the Roadster?

I was thinking that you would have the sub in an enclosure in the trunk and then just open up some pathway to the cabin.

Would I need to actually port the enclosure itself to the cabin?

What if I just put a ported box in the trunk without messing with the passageways to the cabin? Would that sound like crap?

JasZ,
JL w7 8" would most likely meet all your bass needs judging from your original post.

yea look around on 12volts web site you can learn alot by reading the section on subwoofer enclousure design.

as far as the roadster ive never seen the trunk it one but the box i did in the civic is just one of many ways of getting the bass into the cabin through a sealed trunk.

Just remember a subwoofer must move alot of air to make an audible sound wave ....if this air has no way to reach the lisnener or the air is severly restricted it will not sound good at all you would really just wind up with a rattling trunk!

if the air in the trunk of the roadster is sealed off from the air in the cabin in the roadster you will need to cut some kind of hole or port so that air in the trunk can move into the cabin of the roadster otherwise no sound will reach you.

if you have ever put your hand over the port in a subwoofer box you know how mich air these subs can move. this air is your soundpressure wave and thus this air must be able to freely travel to the listner other wise it will be as effective as putting a 1 " diameter exaust system on the 350z!

SQUILL,

Thanks for all the help man. I would really like to use the trunk location, but it looks like that might take some more work to figure out the porting and all that. At least I can get my 10w3v2 and play with the placement.
