Post Valentine Radar

I purchased a new Valentine V1 detecter (still in the 30 day trial period) and I am having problems with it since the suction cups keep falling off the windshield. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

I've had a Valentine One for many years and I had that prob too. I stopped using the suction cup bracket and just use the visor bracket. The repeated falling down caused cracks in the top of the dash of my old car (91 Camry V6).

Wet them a little bit and they shouldn't fall down. I actually have a small drop of super glue inside mine and it'e been there for 20 months and has never fallen down.

A drop of vegetable oil in each suction cup works wonders since it doesn't evaporate.

It's been a while since I had a V1 in my car so I don't really remember, but wouldn't a visor bracket be too high for the V1 to be effective?

I've been using the suction cups since I got the V1 last summer, and I havent had a problem w/ them. The V1 has been up in my winshield since I initially installed it, since it is hardwired.

I use a "stick pad" on the dashboard. Radar is illegal in VA, but I find it very helpful. I have to be able to hide it quickly. So far, in 12 years of using radar in VA, I have only been cought with it once. The trooper was just setting up and didn't have his radar on yet so I didn't know that he was hiding in the median. The dude had great eyesight though and was very nice about it. Good luck with your V1 and your Z.

The fuse box is just to the left of your left foot if you are sitting in the driver's seat. Just pop off the black plastic cover and look for the fuse for your cig. lighter. Pull it out and replace it with another one.

Here is a pic of the sticky pad ad. I got mine from Best Buy. This pic is from Compusa. Any store with a lot of cell phone accessories probably carries it.

I suppose for your needs that would be good but any detector will lose some of its range and effectiveness down there as opposed to up high on the windshield. The higher the better when it comes to range.

Suction cups are fine with me.

You just have to clean the surface (windshield) very well before you try attaching them. Also, moist the suction cups too. I never really had to use any other than water to hold it up there. I've had the V1 for 6 years (2 years in my Honda Prelude, 3 years in my Acura TL, 1 year in my Z) still using the same suction cups and and they are holding pretty well.

I've bought a bracket for mounting the v1 on the rear view mirror and I want to hard wire the unit into wiring coming out of the headliner in the area of the interior lights. I dont think I should use the interior light 12V because its on (the 12v) all the time. Any suggestions? Will I have to run ground and 12v line all the way down through the window pillar into the fuse box? If so has anyone tried this? Any suggestions?

The V1 is great and if you bought the mount that MIKE3348 makes then that is a very high quality mount.

The best way to wire it, if you have the powered mirror, is to use a chord from Invisichord. It works great and makes for a very easy and clean install.

The other option besides using the rear view mirror mount, is to mount the V1 to the headliner behind the passengers left ear. Do a search for stealth V1 install and you should find several threads. I did this myself and really like it. I just used the visor clip that came with the V1, took off the spring clip, drilled a hole in the holder, and used the headliner trim fastener to attach the V1 to the headliner. It works great, is out of the way, and simply can't be seen from outside the car. I wired the V1 remote later and now have it velcroed to the front windshield.
