Default Newbie Amp question!

I'll be wiring a 5 channel amp for the first time this weekend. I know how to run the 3 sets of RCA's, turn on lead and power, but my questions is on the speaker wire from the AMP. Seeing that the AMP will be near the trunk area, do I need to run the wires directly to the speakers, or can I just attach them to the speaker wires up near the HU? It would be easy to run them directly to the rears, but I would hate to have to run them through the shroud to the doors. I was thinking it would be easiest to wire them into the new harness that I will wire the HU to, which in turn plugs into the existing harnass in the car. Let me know. thanks!

I would rerun the wire but that is just me. I think you can do what you are saying and attach the speaker leads from the amp the factory wiring without running new wires thorough the door (I think that is what u are asking?). But usually the factory wiring is of very small gauge and is not heavy enough to support higher output amplifiers. I may be wrong since I have not seen the factory stuff yet myself, but plan to do a partial install of some audio mods this weekend myself. (I just got my car last weekend I'm installing a HU and at least one amp)

BTW...Nice to see a local Z member, I'm in Cleveland myself!! Any local meets?

Wow, glad to see someone else from Cleveland, i'm in the Mentor area! In any case, what I am trying to say is... Speaker wire has to be run from the amp, to the speakers, correct? I have new wire for that, it came from the amp kit. My question is, do I have to run that directly to the actual speakers, or can I attach it to the factory speaker wiring elsewhere, for instance near the HU?

Yeah, you can connect it near the factory hu if you want. In fact, I did that exact thing in my last car for a little while.

Same as others said. Take the extra time and run them to the speakers. Don't run to the deck. If you ever get or if you already have decent aftermarket speakers its well worth it. Think of like this...its like boosting 25 PSI off a ball bearing turbo right into a 1" diameter pipe. Bottleneck.

I ran new wires, left the existing stock wiring just hanging there. I just hope it all works when I get it back together. I have so many wires jammed behind the HU now that if I did anything wrong, I dont want to take it all out again! i'll post pics later! thanks
