Putting sub in stock location question
I know has been asked here before but I thought I can get a quicker answer this way.
I'm going to put a jl audio 10w3 in the stock location. The installer said he never did a Z before and he had a few questions.
Does he have to make a box for the sub or is it already enclosed and how difficult is it to install it in the stock location?
If anyone has done this or knows someone that did this can you please help me out here.
Thanks

I put a 10w3 in the stock location and it sounds fine. It would sound 10 times better if it was mounted in a box. The stock location is NOT sealed by any stretch of the imagination. I have a roadster so mounting in the trunk was not an option. There are a number of guys mounting them in the corner of the trunk with a custom enclosure that seem to be pleased. Do a search to find them.
I just recently built a custom enclosure for a JL 10w6v2,and it was a real pain, a very tight fit.but its worth it,you cant compare the sound with something you stick in there without a box.very clean sound.Ill try to work on some pitures.
I have a 10" Infinity sub in the stock location. I tried creating a box to fit the hole after seeing one on a thread here in this forum, but because of the angles inside, it was impossible. So I just made a square box (more or less to) that I could slide in the hole. The guy that had the box made, said that it was created using a computerized machine and I don't think he ever posted the actual dimmensions. This was about 8 months ago. I have also seen where they have completely enclosed the hole using fiberglass to create a box for the sub.

I just finished building a box that will fit the hole. I put an Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 in it, because it (as well as the JL 10w3v2) calls out for a .60 cu. ft. enclosure, plus I liked the specs, and I got a smokin' deal on it. The box is a wedge, 10.5" square on the baffle, 13" deep, tapering to a 10.5" wide X 8" high at the back. The internal volume using 5 ply baltic birch (1/2" thick) is 1044 cu. in., but subtracting for the plug plate intrusion, I expect it is 1038 cu. in., or exactly .6 cu. ft. (1 cubic foot = 1728 cu. in.) I will be posting photos of my install as soon as I finish it- Now excuse me while I get back to tearing my dash apart....
I just had my audio install done, and they mounted my JL Audio 10w6v2 as if it was a stock sub in the stock location. They dynamated the hell outta that back area, and it sounds awesome. The only problem is the stock bose grille rattles at really high sub volumes. The guy said he might be able to fab something that wont rattle, but if i take it off, it pounds.
